Those chaps are seriously quick - they do 125 mph where we do 65-70! In comparison I am very cautious - Wiscombe has minimal armco, althoug armco is intended to be a safety feature it is very intimidating. It was interesting, but at the end of last season one of the quicker single seater drivers...
Mada 88 - Which is why I went from the T to a DC5. In standard form the Trophy is a superior car, however after a season's hill climbing I would say that the DC5 has more development potential.
I actually looked at one for hill climbing as, in the SW, 2.0 litre diesel turbos run in the up to 1,400 cc class. There was a Cupra 160 bhp competing a couple of years ago and he was only about 1.5 seconds slower than the Trophy and other 182s. Even in standard form he had big problems with...
Colin the 159 (2.4 diesel estate)is my commuting barge - replaced a 114,000 mile Volvo S60 diesel, which was actually a better car, but the Alfa was soooo cheap and had only done 18 miles.
Paul Drake has been a Koni specialist for many years, working from F1 downwards. He is based at Goulds in Newbury and I believe helps to prepare their special hillcimb dampers.
I have used him a little to revalve Koni sport. I am just waiting to fit the latest efforts to my Alfa 159 - in this...
Forgot to say that as Konis are his main speciality he can do the rears to any spec you want.
He is very clever at revalving proper race dampers for any application, so doing the Yellow Sports is a doddle for him.

You would be amazed how much weight some of the prod cars take out in the SW- lightweight seats, exhausts, batteries, bonnets and boots, and remove all the reinforcements behind the bumpers - carpets, air con, abs etc. There are Golfs and 205's down into the 700 - 800 kg range. even so...
Enjoy them whilst you can. I heard a rumour that this type of tyre will eventually lose their road legal status because of some inevitably EU requirement for resistance to aquaplaning. This is becuase they come with only 4mm tread depth and have minimal tread pattern. Logic says that any road...
I found that the standard gearing was helpful, as a relatively long 2nd reduced the number of gearchanges in the twiddly bits.
Can't comment on Avons as I have not come across anyone using them on saloons apart from old type Minis.
Used to beat the only Clio that used a LSD - would actually...
Next year you should be able to run list 1b tyres - only Kumho do them in 205/45x16. Many people go for 15" wheels when the choice of tyres is much wider; A048 or 888 as well as the Kumho. You can run the softest compound available.
You need pads with bite from cold - not the normal criterion...
For hill climbing I used soft all round and set them at the recommended pressures of 26/24. Luke335 then used them for a while - don't know if he tried other pressures for longer duration running.
I buy mine from South Shore Limited in Blackpool - 01253 761362 who were recommended to me by Kumho. Their prices and service are excellent and Tony is a total enthusiast.
There have beenb lots of these fuel comparison tests, nearly always thec conclusion is that n/a cars show minimal benefit whereas turbos can show quite big gains. Als remember that JDM cars are mapped for 100 octane.
Alex is quite a chap - he had a rear engined 5 turbo - lovely car until he totalled it at Werrington Hill climb, earlier in the year - fortunately no harm to him at all - lucky it was LHD, as the RHS was flattened - throttle stuck open.
As an aside quess you may well be able to run the RS2's at...
Colin - In the South West we can already use list 1b in the production class - so the answer is that we don't really use 1a's.
Clios are mainly PE2, whatever they came on (gash or otherwise), or V70A. The problem with the RS2 for competition is that it is also 1b, but too hard a compound to be...
I have before and after graphs from an independent r/r.
Inlets, cams and generic re-amp yielded 7 bhp.
Subsequent bespoke re-map yielded another 12 plus. Whether this is because this re-map maximised the benefits of the inlet and cams or because the engine needed fuelling and ignition to...
Matched inlets appear to be of limited benefit to the 182, as the standard are meant to be better than for the 172.
My own experience of cams is that the standard ECU will only support a stable idle with very mild chnages - so again of marginal benefit (certainly on a £/bhp basis).
A good...

The other point about plate diffs is that it is quite easy to have different characteristics power on and off, also by playing with pre-load to change the rate at which the locking effect builds up.
Another supplier is Drexler in Germany.
Big question is exactly what do Renault fit to the Megane R26 etc? I am led to believe that it comes out of the Nissan parts bin and that it may be made by a Japanese associate of GKN?
Also working in the transmission industry we know that the snatchiness of a plate diff is largely due detailed...
Pete is a very seasoned and expert campaigner and can go round circuits quicker blindfold than I could with max everything. The standing quarter times were on good tarmac straight off the start line and as Pete says were quite a revelation. My best was 15.19 at 98 mph and his 15.04 at 95 mph...
There are various independent gearbox reconditioning specilaists who are much more reasonable. For another car I used a company called gearchange near Bridgwater in Somerset - could not fault the job. www.gearchange.co.uk
