Importers often temporarily fit conventional headlamps to get SVA test approval! All my grey imports (Evo5, Legacy B4 and DC5 facelift) have got round the regs this way - at MoT time my local garage only checks height setting, not whether levelling works (which is fitted to later DC5) or if...
j333evo. I work for one of the leading motorsport gearbox companies and we have found limited benefits from the gear type diff (as I said earlier they work well in specific applications, but are not a universal panacea)- with further development they could be improved - but then you can do so...
Luke - Torsen (Torgue Sensing) and the Quaife are near cousins - both gear type, hence minmal maintenance (actually ideal as the cetnre diff in a 4WD car, particularly as there is a version with torque biasing built in). The one in my DC5 has limited benefits (still spins wheels out of slow...
Mark - Track focussed Clios could well have the Challenge suspension and tyres - the spring rates are 5 or 6 times stiffer than the T - and hopefully may be a lot lighter! You could almost tell which side of a coin you are driving over!
The Quaife is known as an ATB - and is a gear type - they are more user friendly than a plate type, but have the drawback that both wheels need to be firmly in contact with the ground to work. I have seen a Clio 182 using one in competition, and your T still beat him! Plate type diffs can be...
Luke335 fitted one and seemed pleased with the results. Personally, since the T has such limited droop at the rear, once it is three wheeling (quite often) all the load is on the outside rear wheel, the arb can not increase the rear roll stiffness - so can not really see the point - may help in...
I was very upset by Saga (several years ago, dare I say) when i had an Evo 5 and they implied that I was too old for that sort of car - they have been on my blacklist ever since! I have found that specialist motorsports brokers are v helpful if the car is modified - I am with NU, all mods...
The best option would be to try to compare the Trophy springs (presumably you still have the two halves) with either Cup springs or Eibachs after market - the four variables are free length, number of coils, coil diameter and wire thickness. The modulus of the steel will not vary. Hoolio and I...
Colin It is great to see some real speed, not something that happens on the hills - last time I really did anything like that was at CC. Amazing how good the Clios are in the wet - are you happy with the T1R's - what pressures are you running?
My first event is Wiscombe 24 & 25 April - in the...
Great circuit - probably takes a while to learn it! How were your times? Looked as though there were several nasty damp/wet patches, even when not raining - but thank goodness for variable intermittent wiper speeds. What tyres were you on? You must be thrilled that the season has started again.
eljeffo64 -Well done, such a cheap solution - your difference could be because the car settled after you first measured it. I always run the car backwards and forwards a couple of times between any geometry changes and apply the brakes firmly (or even after just jacking it up for a wheel...
Absolutely, my DC5 was set up by one of the better known specialists, and when I checked it, it was miles out at the rear - can only conclude it was because their workshop floor was not level. They took their kit out of service for a while as a result!
Can also check the floor with the spirit...
I now use a proper camber guage, but used to get suprisngly accurate results with a spirit level held vertically against the rims. Use a spacer at the bottom so that it clears the tyres and measure the gap (less the thickness of the spacer) at the top to get the bubble central. On a 16" rim, 1...
You will find that un-even tyre wear patterns aggravate the effect.
Depending on the geometry (mainly scrub radius) camber can also be relevant - personally I did not have a problem on the Trophy, even at 2 degrees. Wide tyres on uneven roads will always produce torque steer/wandering - it is...
DS2500 pads should come with bedding in instructions - if not do an internet search - Ferodo may well have them on their site.
Just beware of glazing from too much gentle driving!
The problem with the DC5 is that it has viciously rising rate rear springs (multiple of 2.5:1)and harsh damper settings to sort of match. Totally agree with comments about damper quality - it is also much cheaper not to make dampers with high and low speed valving, so they tend to be a...
Having gone from the Trophy to a DC5 (facelift), there is very little in it. The Trophy is marginally more compliant, but the DC5 compensates by a better seat and far better driving position. In terms of handling the Trophy is, in standard from, much more predictable and less of a handful on...
The RS2 is quite a good compromise - road tyre compound with semi track tyre construction.
The only guide that I can offer re pressures is that Kumho advised me ot run thge V70A (a track tyre) at 26/24 and that was fine - this was for hill climbing where the tyres hardly even get warm.
Colin, I agree with Mark's reservations - not sure I would be that brave on cold tyres (as in sprints/hills). For circuit work people have run up to 1.00 toe-out at the rear, which normally means with warm tyres, but even then the cars can virtually 'swap lanes'.
The way in which the SC engine hangs on is superb, and of ocurse it has instant throttle response. A few questions:
Does it have a standard ECU?
Does it have standard cams?
What has been done about the inlet cam advance mechanism?
And most impoortant, what is traction like??
As one of the other, very staisified users of V70A, I would agree that they will have a very limited life as a road tyre - but they are sold as a track tyre. The rubber is completely different - also I suspect that using them at temps below circa 6 C will completely destroy the rubber and could...
Binning tyres at 4mm is not necessary. For track use, road tyres are buffed down to 4mm as this is considered to be the optimum starting point - more tread stability (less shuffle!) and less heat build up. Track tyres also come with 4mm as new.
The only problem with naturally worn tyres is that...
Yes you can change down very quickly, going through each gear. what a pain doing it all the time in traffic, and even worse if you are caught unawares by a traffic hazard etc.
The racer's 0-100 time is only partly due to the sequential - change time will be about 150-250 millisecs, compared...
The Sadev is a sequential with a dog clutch engagement system (i.e no synchro)- great for competition, but far from ideal for road use. Correctly matched revs are needed for every change, albeit this can be helped by a spark cut, and you have to work your way down through each gear before...
Check that the metal bush inside the rubber bush at the bottom of the damper is central - otherwise the damper body may touch the rear suspension arm or outer washer(used to happen with Konis in my mini days!). Also if for some reason the top bushes have not seated properly you might get a...
Hoolio
I am just referring to the problem of the top of the strut apparently catching the inside of the wheelarch on lock, which was one of the reasons mentioned at the beginning of this thread.
Best regards
