    tyres from mytyres.co.uk

I found that their delivery was quite slow - as my tyres (not for the Clio) were sent direct from Germany but they did stick ot their delivery promise exactly. Prices were v competitive for 225/45 x 17. BTW offer to pay cash for fitting and if necessary to dispose of the old tyre yourself!!

    Blackcircles.com - Don't bother.....

I recently used mytyres - not for the Clio - and was very impressed - delivery is a bit slow, but my tyres were shipped direct from Hanover. The good thing is that most friendly tyre fitters will do a deal for cash.

Help! Do we need camber bolts on the front?

Cue - front 2.0 negative and 0 - 0.20" toe out. Rear seems fine as quoted for standard.

    Suspension settings/setup

Just go for standard settings with perhaps a tad more front negative - 1 - 1'30" will be fine. Some people seem to like a bit less toe - my came with 10" toe-out (a bit less than standard) and as straight line stability was fine I have left it at that. Because I compete with mine I run 2.0"...

Rear strut brace for the Trophy

Steve, I never intended to get into the driving side of motorsport so late in life, but quite by chance our move to Devon ended up 4 miles from Wiscombe - simply had to do it and the MX5 was available. It was not that quick, but as standard it comes with fully adjustable geometry front and rear...

On reflection not sure whether I should have posted that, as it was an off the cuff comment poss breach of confidentiality etc - pm perhaps.

What sort of mileages are your 'tomatos' at???

pete g - I did Wiscombe and Dunkeswell this year. Did not like the revised Dunkeswell course - as a go-kart circuit it is now too tight - and later events were cancelled because of the Mansell planning apllication saga (I have never come across such ill-informed and bigotted antis). Wiscombe is...

    Wires from engine bay

Splice into the feed to the cigarette lighter - very easy to get at and is switched.

What sort of mileages are your 'tomatos' at???

Steve, Even more if I add the wiper mod and also a slightly relocated accelerator pedal, to help heel and toe, but I claim it is all in a good cause - others may think it is a bit sad! I May use it a bit more for commuting - depends on what annual mileage I agree for next year's insurance.

What sort of mileages are your 'tomatos' at???

Not sure if it is good or bad - but 13 months and only 2,900 miles - must try to get some more miles to help loosen it up a bit more Mods: Front camber at 2 degrees negative - toe-out at 10 mins. Spare set ot Trophy wheels with soft track tyres 75 mm inlet system to standard airbox, replaces...

Rear strut brace for the Trophy

Thanks - my wife might not agree! Mainly because I sold her beloved MX5 to get the Trophy - but it was worth 5 whole seconds at Wiscombe!

    Trophy withdrawal!

Steve, the best solution is to get a slightly bigger mortgage and to pay off the car loan - lower interest rates than for car loan and lower monthly outgoings. The financial press indicates that mortgage lenders are v keen to get your business and are upping the multiples.

Rear strut brace for the Trophy

As Cue and bc 76 anticipated, I have risen to the bait! Firstly, a chassis /shell can never be too stiff - hence the science of designing effective roll cages for touring cars. That said, stiffening up a floppy shell will change the spring and damper requirements. To the specific question...

R26 Meggy this year's Trophy in EVO

The right sort of diff should not cause torque steer - we would probably use a combined plate and viscous unit - but it would be too expensive and need a new housing. Note that Alfa have now fitted a Torsen, gear driven like the Quaife, but with much less aggressive characteristics and that also...

    Rev counter feed?

I am in the process of fitting a more visible change up light system - with several lights and want to trigger it from the same feed as the rev counter. Does anyone know how to identify the wire and whether there is an easy position to splice into it? I have tried the feeds on the coil pack and...

    155mph

The other problem with the Clio, much as we love it, is that it is quite tall giving a relatively large frontal area and short giving a poor coefficient of drag - thus CdA is big, which is why it needs more bhp for high top speed than some other cars. It is reasonable up to 100 becuase it is...
  18. G

    155mph

Real world 155 mph (not speedo) = 7,400 rpm. Road tests give 138 mph standard, and assuming 175 bhp standard; then using aero drag formula, 155 mph needs 245 bhp! No way will you get an n/a engine to produce this much bhp as low as 7,500, as would need 172 ft lbs torque, - probably nearer 8,250...

    Trophy suspension settings

160 mb - 2 degrees does not seem to be a problem in the wet - probably because like all tin tops it rolls a lot - I am not brave (not just an age thing), but I am surprisingly quick in the wet. Donkey - believe it or not but Bilstein used to recommend 300/300 for the four cylinder M3's and...

    Trophy suspension settings

Donkey, do you know if Bilstein still do Group N dampers and if so would you run 1:1 bump rebound on the front - i have never tried this on a FWD car - it was brilliant on RWD, although the ride was hideous. But racing drivers are not paid to be comfortable!

    Trophy suspension settings

With some kind encouragement I thought that I would try to put together some explanations, not too long and with some sort of logic. All aimed at the front wheels – the differences between FWD and RWD should emerge as it proceeds. This is a mixture of long time ago student engineering...

    Trophy suspension settings

Cue - great comment!! Steve, I work near Newbury during my rather luckythree day week and would be happy to meet up somewhere halfway to you one Tues/Wed evening- probably better than boring everyone here on the forum. There are no definitive answers, because FWD asks the front wheels to...

    Trophy suspension settings

Working on the basis that the Clio runs negative scrub radius (which is reduced if you run less ET) they will at a first pass toe out, but by the same token they will toe in under braking and as it is possible to brake at 1g but acceleration is much more liesurely, I would argue the braking is...

    Trophy suspension settings

Fred, I've noted your preference for toe-in before, and would be the first to admit that less toe-out or even some toe-in is a classic cure for instability. I am sure that you would agree that toe settings are also part of the camber, castor and scrub radius equation, which leads me to wonder if...

    Trophy suspension settings

Hoolio, Glad all seems OK, - I used to live in your part of the world, and still work there. If you really want to check out the braking and handling drive from Wantage to Chievely - B 4494 - you might become addicted. I have only driven the Trophy along it once, and it made all my yardstick...

    Trophy Lowering Springs

Lowering begs lots of questions - the advice of going to an expert such as Mark Fish is 100% right - whatever you do do not use cheap springs, they have zillions of drawbacks, Eibach are amongst the best (we used to use them in F1 - but those were mega expensive and specially wiund out of...

    Trophy suspension settings

Hoolio - is this even on a completely flat road (side to side, i.e even when straddling the white line)? There are other possibilites such as a lazy RHS caliper, or the hoary old classic of the front toe being correct, but the track rods being of un-equal lengths - this normally shows up by the...

    Trophy suspension settings

In the old days - and perhaps even now - quite a lot of lightweight Minis raced with the rear brakes completely disconnected! Not that i am suggesting this as an answer for the Trophy!! Harder rear pads might be more sensible.

    Trophy suspension settings

Gareth - trying to work out your setting in degrees and minutes it looks as though the toes are in mm and the camber in degrees - is that right? Did he use shims to correct the rear settings? Steve - hope you have got more than 2% on the rear - or have you found a new way of saving weight!?
