But in the wet people with powerful rear-wheel drive cars are taking it easy, testing what they can do, whereas in say a Clio you don't have to back off a lot, just take account of the need for longer to brake and more understeer turning.
So on a wet trackday where few people are superstar...
You should check first that your standard policy excludes track days.
After dozens of trackdays, my only accident so far was entirely my fault, and my standard insurance company paid out without any fuss.
The specialist trackday insurance won't invalidate your normal policy, and is valid for...
Size 8 but wide. :|
If you read Autocar, and you sound like someone who laps up that sort of stuff :?: , there was a pic of someone ball of foot - and - ball of footing in a Clio in their car handling (?) guide a while ago.
Anyway, to bring this back off topic, not that it wasn't anyway, and on to the heel and toe business:
Maybe i have an odd-shaped right foot, but I could never reach brake and accelerator together in the Focus RS, didn't need to in the CSL, and now find I can in the Clio.
Why do it? :roll...
George, it says on one of the above links that this indication of the softness / hardness of the tyre can only be used to compare tyres from the same manufacturer.
Do you know if this is really the case, or would 200 on a Yokohama be roughly the same as 200 on a Dunlop, say ?
It's a mystery to me, track day pressures. On my CSL I just made sure they didn't get too inflated on trackdays, ie. let a little out after each session if needed.
But with the Trophy, doing the same leaves the tyres looking pretty flat in pictures, even though pressure is kept at 34 / 31...
I had a Focus RS 2 cars ago.
It was very quick on the straights, never caught by 182 / 172 Cups at Cadwell Park.
The multi-link is an improvement over the Clio's suspension, apparently, because it means both wheels have more chance of being in touch with the road in cornering.
I'm no...
'king Stromba, you have interesting things to say, that is beyond doubt, but if you don't mind me saying, it might be helpful if you could try to say things in a way that didn't antagonise others.
There is a time for an argument that gets to the bottom of things, but also a time for just a...
Adding your figures up means you will have paid 18 395, not 17 000, for the car after 3 years if you pay the final payment.
Also, from the invoice it seems you are also paying interest on the £400 they "gave" you over the 3 years as well, not sure if this was clear to you from your...
17,000 overall after 3 years of finance sounds entirely possible, though not a good rate - basically at least 40 quid of each monthly payment is interest.
Yes, we've got a second car for the everyday stuff, so the Trophy / its replacement are just for track days. The high mileage will be because each trackday is about a 500 mile round trip !
Not sure I will yet, Oli. Depends on the track day scene next year - if I'll have the time to do a lot of track days, I'll probably get something more track-focussed.
Otherwise, I'll be happy to keep the Trophy - great car !
Never had a clio before, so was curious to see what the fuss was about.
Haven't been disappointed - it's more fun to drive on track than my old Focus RS, and it feels easier to drive fast on track than my old M3.
Only seen the 2 on ebay.
Mine may be for sale mid-December if you're interested. Will have 7,500 careful miles by then. Yours for somewhere around 11k.... Unless I keep it.
Although in fairness to roblad too, he didn't actually say anything about reservoir dampers, just that the ones on the Trophy expensive.
Don't worry though, they are covered by the warranty.
Having said that, if you race the car and get through dampers on a regular basis, I doubt the same...
In fairness to 'stromba, although his posts often seem "anti" whatever is being discussed, he at least is trying to make sure people are clear about what they are saying.
So does the fact the dampers have reservoirs improve the handling ? Maybe not.
Are these particular dampers there to help...
Almost through first set of Exaltos after 4 track days with the Trophy, and thought I'd post up details of other makes that come in the same 205/45 size :
Bridgestone Potenza S-03PP
Dunlop SP Sport 9000
Pirelli P Zero Nero
all come in 16"
So there are some decent alternatives if there are...
I also remember pics of the new AM V8 at the Ring with the inside front wheel in the air.
Anyway, what I wanted to post was that handling isn't just subjective. You can talk of a car that handles well and not mean just "I think it handles well".
Take a Kia Rio. If someone says they think...
Agree that 12k is way overpriced, but good luck to the guy.
Thanks to 'king Stromba, by the way, for livening up a perfectly normal thread again.
=D>
Thanks Rodger, great site. Lots of interesting things to get done - brake pad upgrade, the carbon air filter box you've had done, the sports cat plus stainless steel exhaust, roll cage. Basically plenty to make the Trophy even more of a weapon on track.... Thanks again !
