    The dreaded Aux belt service

All your statements are correct! Aux belt due at 36k or 5 years (although there is some argument that this service is due every 3 years...), cambelt due at 72k or 5 years. If your aux belt was changed at 36k in July 2007, it won't be due for a change again until 72k or July 2010.

    The dreaded Aux belt service

Damn thats cheap, genuine Renault cambelt and aux belt kits are over a ton each! What gives?

    The dreaded Aux belt service

I think this seal can fail in a number of ways! I've seen pics on the forum of people who have oil seemingly coming up from the head studs, but mine is leaking a trace amount of oil at the rear of the engine on the drivers side where the cam cover meets the head, and along the seal path under...

    The dreaded Aux belt service

I've just spoken the the mechanic at the garage and in order to replace the cam cover seal the cambelt is removed. Therefore you have a choice to put the old cambelt back on and hope it doesn't fail or put a new belt on there and hope that the assembly doesn't have to be taken apart for another...

    The dreaded Aux belt service

The top of the cam cover housing has to be removed to re-seal the cam cover...but I'm not sure what effect this has on the cambelt assembly itself. IIRC the mechanic said to me that the cambelt would actually be removed from the vehicle during the work and therefore they suggested that I should...

    The dreaded Aux belt service

Yeah I know I do! But to be honest I've not had anything to report on until now! In fact I was only saying the week before my Trophy went in how reliable it had been! Anyways, thanks for the replies fellas :) I don't know exactly how much it is costing to fix the cam cover seal...

    The dreaded Aux belt service

First off, apologies for not being an active forum memebr for quite some time... So I took my Trophy in for it's 36k mile service last week, and had a call from the garage to advise me that I had an oil leak from the cam cover seal and that it did not make any sense to change the aux belt as it...

Clio Trophy making Whistling/Tinkling noise on acceleration

Patrick, really sorry and suprised to hear that the new gasket did not fix this problem, I've not replaced my gasket yet, so I can't say if it's worked for me. I can say though that whatever my local dealership did do (all I was told was that they tightened the manifold to cat gasket clamp) to...

Clio Trophy making Whistling/Tinkling noise on acceleration

I'm going to agree with D4VP-C(309) and say that it's the exhaust. I had the same whistling sound from my Trophy, although really it only happened when charging for the red line. I assumed it was just a normal sound, but when my car was in for service at Rentech they noticed the manifold to cat...

    Loud creaking from boot area.

I went to SMC Guildford. Despite a friend having a bad experience with them, I found the service was top notch and I won't have a problem going back there. They gave the car a thorough checking over, advised on any issues, and let me make my own decision as to what work was to be carried out and...

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Alright, I had my Trophy checked over by a Renault dealership today and they could not find anything that would cause the creaking. As I'd previosuly posted, the creaking has all but gone now, so I was not holding out much hope of the technicians being able to replicate or identify the noise. So...

    Which tyres for the Ring?

Likewise, hope you enjoy your time out there :D Have you made a decision on which tyres to go for?

    Which tyres for the Ring?

I'm going out mid-week this trip, from 2nd until 4th September. The Yoko's are also supposed to be pretty good in the wet...but experience tells me otherwise! It's not that they are dangerous, but compared to the PE2 they are a long way off in terms of wet weather performance.

    Which tyres for the Ring?

I've just fitted a set of Yokohama Parada Spec 2 for my trip to the 'Ring in September. IMO they are a much better track tyre than the PE2, more outright grip and less side wall flex. They are road tyres rather than specific track day tyres and can therefore be used all year round...however they...

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Thanks for the update DfV...my Trophy is going into Renault over the next week or so for some other stuff to be looked at so I'll ask them to have a look at the ball joints at the same time. Since my last post, the noise has now gone completely, so I may never find out what the noise was with mine!

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Bit of an update. Although I have not actually done anything to cure the creaking other than removing my spare wheel from inside the boot...the creaking has ceased!?!? It still occurs, but only when the chassis is really flexing (low speed cornering on inclines) and the sound is much less...

Excellent result DfV, glad that you've got it sorted! I've still not got the grease off my mate, so mine is still creaking like a good'un, but I reckon I'll have a look tonight to see if the same clip has failed on mine. Have you got anymore detail on where the clip is located, and how you...

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Not had chance to get the grease onto the striker yet, will over the weekend so I'll post next week to say if it has resolved the issue or not. I've got the same feelings about the bump stops, that over time the rubber may have become compressed, the Trophy units are non-adjustable, so if the...

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Alright, so I've done a very scientific test with a mate in the back of the car, and it seems that we can stop the creaking by holding the boot lid firmly in place...so I'm hoping that the noise is just caused by the boot lock mechanism. Going to put some grease on the striker tonight and...

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Tight corners, but not at speed. Most audible when going over speed bumps at an angle or when cornering slowly up an incline. Seems to be at its worst when the chassis is flexing. I'm just going out with another mate who has offered to sit in the back and trace the sound for me, so hopefully...

    Loud creaking from boot area.

Done a search and I think I may be the first one to report on this! My Trophy has developed a loud creaking from the rear of the car over the past couple of months, I thought it could have been the interior trim in the boot, or the boot lock and rubber stops, but i've tried replicating the...

    My dream "next car"

Great choice hoolio! 8) I've been looking at Exige's reecently and saw this model on Autotrader...and fell in love...and then saw the price! I'll have to wait a few years... What's it called again Club Racer or something like that? I think the map of the Hethel test track on the door...

C'mon, give us a hint!!! Two doors or four, two seats or four? I'm currently lusting over a S2 Exige...but like SpaceMonkey it's a good few years off yet! Trophy does so much for so little money, I'll be holding onto mine for a while yet!

Hello and brief update - Yoko's fitted!

That's the thing, oversteer does not seem to be a problem, the backs bizarrely seem relatively planted, but with a bit of lock on and a hefty bit of throttle the fronts just wash out, much more than the PE2's would...so you just have to be a bit more sensible in the wet, which is no bad thing...
