TL:DR I’d like a trophy! If you’re thinking of selling, please let me know :)

Hi all,

I’m on the lookout for a Clio 182 Trophy and thought I’d post here in case anyone is considering selling, now or in the near future.

I’ve been into cars for years and have owned a mix of things and the Trophy has always been one that’s been on the list to come back to.

These days life’s a bit busier (three kids and being IT manager at a video game company), so I’m looking for the right car to keep and enjoy when I get the chance. It would be going to a genuine enthusiast home.

Condition wise I’m open-minded, happy to consider anything from well-used to very tidy, as long as it is honest.

For what it’s worth, current situation is a Vito daily and an Elise S2 tucked away at my dad’s that I’m trying to find time for…

If anyone is thinking about selling, or knows of a car that might be coming up, I’d really appreciate a message.

For what it’s worth, my history with the boring stuff removed:

Abarth 500 (2009)
Elise S2 111s (2003)
Exige S220 (2006)
Abarth 500 esseesse (2010)
205 Rallye (1992)
Evora (2010)
Clio 182 (2004)
Classic Mini (1982)
106 Rallye (1994)
E350 Brabus Estate (2011)
Bentley Brooklands (1995)
Clio 172 Cup (2003)
Elise S2 Racetech (2002)
M135i (2016)

Cheers

Chris

Good luck with your search Chris and I'll look forward to you posting your adventures when you acquire one.

I have posted a few on here that are for sale on various different sites in the recent days.

Thanks Nick! It’s only a matter of time until I get the keys I’m sure :)

I’m checking the usual places, eBay, Autotrader, C&C most days… I sometimes even brave Facebook marketplace :D

I’ve seen that one, looks smart.

LSD and lightened flywheel, not sure how much that would change the driving dynamics from standard, which is what I’m after

It’s certainly on the radar though!

Something like a Quaife LSD on the Trophy is a worthwhile upgrade and probably one of the very few modifications I would recommend.

Any jobs going, Chris? :ROFLMAO:

Giving it some thought, my first choice would a trophy as close to factory as possible, I don’t doubt that one’s better! It’s not a no anyway, I just don’t want to waste anyone’s time

What area of the game industry are you looking for? Happy to help if I can!

I would agree - look for an enthusiast-owned example as close to stock as possible. And maybe consider something like a Quaife in the future if needs be. Whilst I am all for stock/standard (honestly, guv!) the LSD does add "driver value" if not monetary value!

I won't derail your thread talking work here mate!

The rallyes were great, a lot of fun! Recommend them. Only sold the 205 so I could get an evora (massively underrated car) and the 106 a guy from NI offered me twice what I’d paid for it, at the time I couldn’t say no :)

Most disappointing of the lot was the M135i by a long way, manual box was terrible and spoiled it, lesson learnt 2016 is far too modern for me :D

Thank you for sharing

Not new, no :) (suspect it will be up for a while at that price too imo)

Having not seen this car in the flesh Chris which then make's it hard to comment in my view - but I do know that the car has had a fortune spent on it by the previous owner Alex which is why it's at that price point I'd say.

If you find an equivalent Trophy today I'd say you would be paying 7-8k before any spend, and Alex did do a complete paint job and refresh of all the go to parts - depends if you want the hassle of sourcing unobtainable parts for an unloved car.

It can be done but my car cost me over £8000 trade in cost's (Mine didn't need full respray @ £4000 ish luckily - £800 in paintwork) 5 years ago and I'd say it would be even more today to replicate.

No one will every make one brand new without maybe Tolman getting involved and that price tag would then astronomical

I’m in agreement with @NickReilly063 on #142. For the amount of work done by Alex to bring that car to a high standard, the asking price is what you’d expect to pay for a Trophy in that sort of order.
With these cars - buying on condition and/or provenance is important now. Buying on mileage can be a real trap as often those need a lot of recommissioning if you’re planning to actually use it a bit.
There’s also no such thing as a cheap Trophy either, what you may save in a purchase price will soon be going on belts/dampers/ etc.

No worries at all, I appreciate the context. It does look like a really well sorted car and you can tell a lot’s been spent on it

I hope my comment didn’t come across the wrong way, I definitely wasn’t trying to cause any offence. It was more just based on what I’ve seen recently with similar cars not moving too quickly at that sort of price.

Either way, it’s a great example, I was just sharing my perspective rather than knocking it at all 🙂
