I think Renault were selling the entire system (minus manifold) for around £1200? If I’m correct, that’s about double the price of any aftermarket system today.

I wonder how many of us would pay that? I’d be tempted as the aftermarket ones seem louder and boomier.

The only aftermarket one I’ve considered is the PMS system, but do worry I’d feel a bit aging ‘boy racer’ with the noise at half a century…. ;)

I think if Renault still supplied the original item, I’d have no qualms about paying for one to keep the originality of the car. A little like our old Mini, which I swapped out a perfectly good RC40 aftermarket exhaust for a single box Maniflow item which is outwardly an exact replica of a 1960’s special tuning item. It looks & sounds wonderfully period correct.

A few years back I spoke with the company (based in/near Dorset I recall) that makes the exhausts for PMS. They can make the system quieter by adding an additional box and/or reducing the pipe diameter in line with the original. If I went down this route, I might as well go to a local fabricator for a customer job - probably quicker and cheaper than going via PMS?

Period correct? Is this raspy, almost asthmatic sounding?

Just to follow-up on the Renault exhaust. Mick was telling me he has a friend who fairly recently bought a new 182 system from Renault (it was £2k+) and was blowing out of the rear box from the start. Renault initially tried to say it wasn't covered by their warranty, but finally replaced it.

He doesn't rate Scorpion or Miltek. He said Miltek are now made in China, and are the worst quality. He does rate PMS. But I too worry it is too loud. Quite pricey too but isn't everything these days?! There probably isn't a system out there, even a custom one, that will be quiet like the OEM.

I’m surprised to hear they’re still available from Renault! But that sort of price is seriously off putting, makes what I paid for the one I found more reasonable for sure.
I may also have just done a deal on a PMS as a back-up…. 😉😁
