Hi all,

long time lurker and been on the hunt for the right trophy for a while now.
Looking for a sub 80k miles example.

First car was an 02 Clio 1.2 dynamique ( a lot of nostalgia with this car and tried to hunt it down but believe it was written off in 2011)
As well as that car making a huge impact on me I remember being blown away by an article in EVO magazine back in 2005 when they pitted it against a BMW M6.
Anyway I am now fortunately able to afford a trophy and the only other criteria apart from the mileage is an example with sachs dampers.
Appreciate a number of examples have aftermarket stainless steel exhausts due to the original turning into dust so this isn't a deal breaker.

If you or anyone you know is thinking about selling please drop me a pm.

Thanks

James

Good luck James with your search - have you also joined the Clio Trophy Facebook Group as there seems to be a lot of selling activity on there at the moment - always cross referance on here the car's number which will then help you build a picture of it's history and maybe some future spend.

Good luck with your search James. I wouldn't get too hung up on mileage, sometimes a higher mileage car will have good ownership history and works carried out, I'd buy on condition and history as a priority.
Thanks, appreciate what you’re saying and would always look at history / how well it’s been maintained before anything else. In my head was looking around this mileage purely due to what I’ll be putting on it (it will be driven and enjoyed) I haven’t seen many over 160k examples and if I get a 120k example I can see me far exceeding that number (if the car allows me) as I plan on having this car for a long time if not forever.

Might be looking to move mine on - 111k on the clock but incredible paperwork/history - not had it long and just had the sachs refurbed at BG - one car has to go - I've got my 205 gti listed for sale so it's just a case of which goes first - let me know if you want more info.....

What's your budget?

I don’t really work on a budget, all depends on the example really and what is going to be considered good / fair value. I’d happily look at at £7.5k or a £20k example depending on what I’m getting for that sum of money. If that 10k Mile example on CC went for £20k I’d be throwing my hat in the ring as that would be great value. Likewise a 130k example for £5k would also peak my interest. As long as it’s got a decent maintenance record and had the pulleys, belts and dampers done at some point then I’d be interested. Same if they haven’t but I’d want money to one side to get those parts done properly. I’ve seen a few steep / ambitious numbers really so happy to wait for something that seems fair to come up

Just a note on this. I very much doubt you'll find a £5k Trophy these days.. There's a point with these things that you have to be realistic about values.

absolutely, but if I saw one with 130k + which needed shocks, paintwork / bkdywork and belts sorting don’t think the £5k would be all that far off. Suppose it’s just about getting the right one for a fair price, I know people aren’t giving them away but also know that some of the examples I’ve seen for sale could be sitting for a while.

I think you will find that you can just keep on spending on these little cars 🚗 - I would agree that the main items are the Sach’s and belts but the list just goes on if you are looking at cars that have had a hard life -

Even the 9000 mile car that is for sale on Collecting Cars will need quite a lot of spend to make it look how it should - boot needs painting which is a shame along with the wheels - bonnet is dented, can it be removed without paint ??? Sachs will need to be refurbished - rears could need new ones ???

All adds up even on a car with a high price point and a really low mileage -

Mines a 3 owner, 111k, amazing paperwork, sachs just refurbished. Would benefit from some paint/cosmetic attention (stone chips and lacquer) but a really honest example - considering selling it (unless my 205 gti sells first!) - wouldn’t be after silly money and happy to provide more info if interested….

Got to set eyes on some to see what they are really like, can’t go off photos and descriptions. I saw a few bad ones that were listed as good examples and the one I bought barely had any info but was mint!
