That's good info. I've checked the wiring and cleared the fault. If the light comes back on I will swap out the sensor.
£30 at euro car parts at the moment so I may do it anyway.

Solved.
After a lot of testing I found that the problem was the connection between the final plug and the light casing.
I have no idea why this had a bad connection but assume it is something to do with the new ebay light casings.
Anyway, with a bit of bending of connectors it is all working...
Update.
I have found out that my plugs are newish but the leads are old. After wiggling the leads on top of the coil pack, and clearing the fault codes I had no problem for about a week. Having not driven the car for a week the problem has returned, although the fault code is now saying cylinder...
