I'm just looking at a 2005 cup. The car is nice but the service history book and any other history is missing ! The MOT record verifies the mileage back to its first test.
Obviously the price would need to reflect the lack of paperwork but what is the general view on this.
It has just passed an mot without issue so I'm working on the fact that in the aside from any cosmetics I would be starting off with a full service and belt change cost.

Any views ?

I'd go with your gut mate.
But TBH if it's cheap enough I'd go for it if it were me. Altho id be after a 172 cup.

I know what you mean Rik. Will see how it goes. Why the 172 rather than the 182?

Personally it would depend on what I thought about the person I was dealing with.

My Trophy hasn't had a stamp since 2010 when I had the belts done, after that I did everything myself. I know everything has been done to a high standard but anyone looking to buy it would have to make their own mind up, who's to say I even did a good job and used the correct tools? On the other hand I just did the belts again last year and the timing was out, it may have moved after the work was carried out but I can't be sure, the work was carried out at a specialist.

I keep all the receipts from service and maintenance works anyways which is at least some kind of proof. If I were to buy one without any history I would at least carry out a full 5 year type service on it just for peace of mind, however, it wouldn't put me off, so long as the car looked as if it had been cared for.
