After a break of about 6 months I drove a 172 Cup the other day. They always feel so lively bog standard compared to 172/182 derivatives. Definitely a good basis for a modded car with some suspension tweaks and some 2nd hand Recaros.

i haven't and won't comment on the cup , other than using others opinions as it's the only RS clio i haven't driven. What others have said though leads me to believe it would be in my 2nd place of Clio icons - ahead of the williams.

The ethos of weight loss appeals to me, if i was doing a RS Clio track car, it would start with a 172 Cup, add Trophy bits and you've got the perfect hot hatch. The trophy gets 99/100 for me as it needs a little more low down grunt.

Strip it out, lighten parts and you'd be there. But it's a road car... not the best to turn into a track car, RWD comes first.

Anyway i'm going off at a tangent. I don't think anyone has spoken out of turn about the (one true) Cup.

I think one thing is apparent though; The Trophy has a loyal following.
