My village petrol station is being converted to Texaco, and next nearest one is the same, hence my email to Texaco UK

I said:
Hi

Could you possibly tell me the octane rating of Texaco's super unleaded as sold in the UK?

My little french car features a hilariously mis-spelt sticker on the fuel cap commanding me to use 98 RON fuel; as my two nearest petrol stations are Texaco, I'd like to fill up there.

Today's response:

Texaco Customer Care said:
Thank you for your e-mail received today.

Please be advised that the Octane rating for Super Unleaded is 95 Ron.

Ugh, a quick google revealed this:

http://www.jdjohnson.co.uk/index.html?fuel2.html

Texaco Super Unleaded Petrol

Texaco Super Unleaded Petrol was introduced for use in petrol (spark Ignition) engined vehicles where there is a requirement for a high octane unleaded fuel. This grade exceeds the octane levels of Texaco Premium Unleaded Petrol and is equal to the octane level for both Texaco Lead Replacement Petrol (LRP) and Texaco 4* Leaded Petrol (both now obsolete).
Texaco Super Unleaded Petrol is recommended for use in high performance vehicles which are able to use Unleaded Petrol, but have not, or are unable to have the ignition setting adjusted to run on the lower octane level of Premium Unleaded Petrol.

I'd steer clear. On the same page they spec the unleaded as being 95 RON. The spec for the super unleaded is suspiciously lacking. It's being marketed as a leaded petrol replacement which was 98 RON, which could mean it is 98 RON, or it might not...

Do these links help?

Finally there's the mail order option:

 I like them. Although it's a wee bit out of date. Where exactly is the Soviet Union?

Texaco = [-X (sick)

Just find out where there's a good Shell near you and make it a night-drive once a week.

Well that's the point, it's about ten minutes' drive away (in the other direction from where I usually travel) and isn't open all that much, eg only mornings on Sundays.

Anyone know a site that brings up a map of all shell service stations in the country? Had a look a couple of times but found nothing any good.

Did you try the link I posted above? Doesn't show the whole country at once, but does give you a map with all the service stations in a given area.

If you then put the post code of a service station into petrolprices.com, you can work out where you should fill up on the way home :)

So I was in a Texaco station yesterday in Devon which had the following signage up on the pumps:

Texaco High Octane, 97 RON

So there you go. Gnats piss.
