I just spotted this on the Renaultsport forum "panel of experts" bit:

Eldorado asked: 182 service

Am I right in saying that my 182 clio needs servicing either every 12k miles or every 12 months? If so, why was this changed from every 24 months? Isn't a service every year a little excessive if I only clock around 8k miles a year?

Allen Collen responded on the 12-09-2006:

An annual inspection gives piece of mind to customers especially those on a low annual mileage. Many of our competitors provide an annual inspection and it improve the quality monitoring of our vehicles (servicing, OTS etc.)


Has anyone else heard about Renault changing the service interval from 2 years to 1 year? Is this "official" Renault policy or is Allen Collen simply saying that an owner could have a service every 12 months if they wanted to?

My servicing booklet definitely says 2 years, and that is what the dealer said when I bought the car (it will be ages before I reach 12000 miles so the time interval is more relevant to me than mileage).

Given the fact that most of our Trophys are now around 12 months old, wouldn't it have been nice to have been told about this change? (If, in fact, Renault are saying that it should be every 12 months instead of two years).

Can anyone shed any light on this? (Jeremy, perhaps).

If it is every year, then I think I've invalidated my warranty! :evil:

Tell you one thing though, the dealer whom I bought the car from told me every 12k or 2 years and the book in the car does confirm this, therefore if this isn't the case, I guess Renault may end up with a law suit or two should they try to invalidate any warranties as a result.

Having said that, mine did have a 'Safety Check' done a couple of months ago. They even stamped the book with 'Safety Check' which I thought was a bit odd. :?:

Have a look in the folder you got with the manuals and bumf.

ther's a red book with "Maintenence Service" look half way down on page 3

"Maintenence Service every 12.000 miles or every 2 years:
clio 2.0 16v (Renault Sport)" < that includes the Trophy

I think you'd be mad not to get the Trophy checked over properly every year. Especially if you go to a decent specialist. Mine's just hit the 10k mark, but had a yearly check up and Oil change back in July and the Trophy feels like new again. I think most people on here would agree that an oil change at 6k will keep the car in top condition.

Just my tuppence worth.

Yes, I know that. Thats why I said that the booklet says 2 years in my first post.

But when the "expert" was asked whether the interval had changed from 2 years to 1 and why, he replied as though he knew what the questioner was referring to, he didn't deny any change and didn't confirm that it is two years.

Which is why I started the thread, just to see whether anyone else had heard anything about it, or whether I am grasping the wrong end, as usual :lol:

it sounds as though he was voicing opinion. Which matches my opnion - it should be done every 12 months. The service schedules all manufacturers are minimum times. OR shoudl that be maxmimum, my heads screwed today.

the time doesn't really matter, its the use that dictates how often a car should be serviced, in most cases this takes the form of miles on the clock, but not always. e.g a car used heavily on track should be serviced more often than a car that does the same milage on motorway.

It makes simple sense. :roll:

Totally agree, guidelines are guidelines, if I was tracking my car, I'd be changing the oil every 2-3000 miles. Hardly an expense compared with the amount of tyres, discs and pads you get through. Most owners on here seem to be changing their oil more frequently than the 12K guideline anyhow. I'm doing mine again soon and I've only covered 10.5K. The other benefits of a service are the checks to make sure everything is how it should be. Exactly why I wouldn't leave it longer than a year, and equally why I wouldn't go to a stealer for servicing!

The other thing is to make sure you use some decent oil. Mine's just had its second oil change and its just done 7,700 miles - for the record.

GUYS Advice please - I've just been told by a Reno main dealer that the interval for my Trophy is 2 years or 18k miles.
I'm @ 12 months and @ 8k miles so was looking to get it done in the next couple of months anyway but was just checking it was not due immediately.
Are they talking nonsense? I am fully conversant with the debate on time-based/ condition-based maintenance but just want to be share that there's some wildly differing information out there from dealers as to what users should be doing not to invalidate the warranty.
What are other people being told by their dealers?

If you service the Trophy at 12,000 miles +/- 1000 miles or before it is two years old if the mileage is less than 12,000 miles you will not invalidate the warranty. It's all in the service manual you should have got with the car. You can take my word for this, not that it's worth anything.

A Renault dealer would only tell you the difference between his arse and his elbow if you paid him £250 for the privilege. Then he wouldn't be too sure.

Ok. 1st someone slap me next time i re-cycle newish threads. 2nd. Having done only 3000 miles but being almost a year old i want it serviced, but by ren-tech (might also get remap done by k-tech) then at 2yrs/12k i get it done by reno to get the stamp so as not to invalidate warranty.Does this make sense?

Reno Chester must have the same service personnel selection policy as V**xall who could, at a push, just about recognise the front from the rear of my old Vx

Silkman: I'm sure they're mostly as good/bad as each other. I took mine into Lookers in Macc last month for its 12k and they seemed ok. Judging by your username I'd guess it's probably fairly handy for you. The only thing they fell down on was not stamping the book to start with and just leaving a note saying 'couldn't find service book' - obviously I'm the only person in the world who would leave it in the glovebox!! They stamped it and phoned to apologise after I sent it back in with someoneI know who works there. Anyway, they were ok, I took my own oil and paid £155. Alternatively I don't know myself but my mate uses Lookers in Stockport and has only had good experiences from there. Can't imagine there's much difference anywhere apart from the small touches.

Re- Service

I had my courtesy call (tuesday) from renault asking how happy etc and while at it, i asked about service shedules and was told that there is confusion due to renault introducing the new shape whilst still having some older mark2 cars on sale with 06 plates and differing maintenance periods for the varying models?! :roll: . The trophy is defo 12000m so mines booked in for the end of this month :!:

L**kers are the shower that took 3 months to specify, source and fit suspension parts to my Vx and then managed to scratch the body and flood the inside while they were at it.
However that's a bit like saying all Wetherspoons are pants just because one gives you the wrong change from a tenner....
You pays yer money etc etc

no, i can't remember the specifics so i maybe wrong on the detail but i think they also:

Change two of the three filters, not sure which but i think it's oil and pollen.
coolant
check brake, power steering and all other fluids.
all all other regular stuff like tyre pressures.

plus they give you a stamp for your service book :)

Anyone know any independents for the annual service around london that are reliable? Just trying to get an idea on running costs when I eventually get a trophy.

identical to any 182 - There's a couple of v v gd independants down your neck of the woods. Mark fish and erm.... can't remember the other but he's out towards Brighton or Southampon.... something like that but a few people have raved about him.

RSport in Wimbledon seem to have good reviews over on Cliosport.... haven't used them myself.

Rentech in Portsmouth perhaps Cue :wink:
