I'm sitting at 21,500, almost 12 months since my last service and needing a new pair of front shoes. Over the next 5 weeks I've got to cover a few thousand miles including a trip to the Scottish Highlands.

By the time I head off to Scotland on September 8th I'll probably be around the 23K - 23.5K mark. Would you get the service and tyres done before or after the Scottish trip? Before and I know the car is in tip top condition with a new pair of boots for the mountains, after and I don't knock a new pair of tyres for 1500 miles in their first week!!!

Thoughts please....

get the service done, i'd leave the tyres until you get back but seriously..... I changed my oil a week or so back - after 6k and only 6 months, it was black! The thought of going another 6k and 6 months with that stuff in the engine gave me knightmares (almost).

I get the tyres done by Protyre in Fareham, and then head straight to Rentech for the service so it's all or nothing! If I get the tyres done before then the 500 miles north will bed them in and I'll have optimum grip for those lovely mountain roads......

Where exactly you heading up north? I work in Lossiemouth - between Inverness and Aberdeen - and some excellent roads about there that I can point you in the direction of.

Get it all done before. Then she'll be in tip=top condition for the road trip. New PE2's have at least twice as much lateral grip as worn ones, it'll be like a new car!

Cue - knightmares again eh? I won't post the picture of the jousting tournament up again! Black's no worry, it's custard colour that gives a lack of sleep, which is what I found when topping up my 205 once, the breather hose had perished at exactly the same time as a tiny hole developed in a radiator hose which spayed a fine jet of hot coolant directly into the perished breather hose!

Depends what those journeys those 6k miles were though, doesn't it...

yep and how hard it was driven in those 6k. Includes two track sessions.... but still 12k would be pushing the limits to me.

12K/12months is what Renault recommend, so that's good enough for me. I sometimes take the view that Renault spend thousands of man hours and a millions of euros developing a car and they are probably best placed to say how frequently things need doing!

as long it gets past 3 years manufacturers don't give two hoots how long your engine lasts, they build mechanical degridation into things to make sure you'll buy another car in X number of years.

Does anybody know of any good tyre places in the Crawley/East Grinstead neck of the woods?

The last couple of times I've had tyres done I've gone to Pirelli Performance centres as they use plastic coated tools to protect the wheels, torque wrenches to tighten the wheel nuts, machines that use rubber clamps rather than those horrible metal spikes etc...

As I said earlier I'd normally get my tyres done at ProTyre in Fareham then along to RenTech to get a service, but the tyres are down to the wear indicators and I'm still 2.5K short of the service interval!

My options are:

A. Head down to Fareham on Friday and get my tyres done and then go to Portsmouth in a couple of weeks for my service

B. Get the tyres and service done on Friday even though I'm 2.5K off the service interval

C. Find a good tyre place local to me and get the service done in a couple of weeks as per A.

D. Head to Fareham on Friday for my Tyres and find if I can get my car serviced in Bristol or Leciester when I'm in the vicinity prior to my trip to Scotland.

So in summary, can people suggest good tyre places near me, or good Renault specialists in Bristol or Leicester?

ALTERNATIVELY - Has anybody used e-tyres, or any of the other mobile fitting services?
