Evening all, just a quick post to say hi. Long time lurker and just plucked up the courage to post, so please be gentle

Started doing a bit of research with a view to buying a trophy in the not so distant future. Looking at the lower end of the spectrum price wise and would ideally like to use the car on track/events etc.

I have seen two that foot the bill and was hoping any of you kind gents would offer some words of advice?

The first being the one at KTR number 291 and the second on pistonheads no 493. Any comments greatly appreciated and apologies in advance for all the stupid questions I am going to ask

Hi,
Don't know the two cars,
It's awlays an interesting debate. For me unless you have the Sachs front dampers, it's not a trophy and you may as well save paying the premium and just buy a 182.

others will have different ideas on this. Some have been turbo'd or charged or other. Some have been stripped. I have swapped the seats in mine. So we all have different views on what a Trophy is. For me it's going to be about the handling.

so the KTr car for example. £3800 plus £1000 for a set of second hand Sachs plus refurbish them. All of a sudden you have, for me, £4800 trophy which still needs tidying up.

however.. You can always take a hard working trophy with no Sachs and at some point turn it back into a trophy. With Sachs. You can't however buy the most mint 182 and add new Sachs and it be a trophy. if you understand my point.

493 would have been on my radar if I had been buying again looking at the advert. Not looked at the history yet.

its all semantics I suppose. Your buying your number. What you do with it is your choice.

Just for track and events? Buy a 1*2 and invest the difference in price on a good set of coil overs, brakes and geometry.

Thanks for the reply dablk and to be honest agree with your logic, I suppose the whole point of the package is the Sachs dampers.

Had a good chat with the owner of 493 and although it has more mileage it certainly seems on the face of it to be the better car. Also has more traceable history on this site so slightly more swayed to that one to be honest.

hoolio, yes could be an option, quite like the pedigree of the trophy though... Tough choice.

I've had mine less than a week and for me it's more than just the dampers. Colour, scarcity, seats and maybe the fact I've had a few fast Renaults and have a weakness!! I agree with Hoolio, if your just looking to track it, why not save the initial outlay and tweak a 1*2.

Yes, but I totally agree with hoolio. Track car buy the best runner 182 for peanuts, buy good bits and don't stress aout the £2000 premium you have just spent on a trophy over a 182.

IMO if its for the track buy a 172 CUP and spend the rest doing your own touches like brakes , suspension and roll cage.

You are buying the Trophy for 4 things Possibly 5.

1, The suspension.
2, The Recaro seats
3, The V6 Spoiler
4, The Trophy Badge
5, The Status It Has.

Other than the above and even then some people will disagree with whats above you may as well rip apart a 1*2 and set it up how you want.

Thanks all for the responses, car won't be used exclusively on track but would like to see what all the fuss is about with these cars. ;)

Any how's looks like I have struck a deal on number 493, pretty excited to be honest! Might be here to stay, sorry!

Well done. Don't get me wrong they make great track cars and plenty on here do track them but there are better out there if that is all you want, where they really come alive is on a good B road sprint.

Thank you and yes in all honesty with two young kids it will probably get used far more on the B roads, as finding time to attend events is an issue at the moment (as my wife keeps telling me ;)).

Wanted one for a little while after reading about them in Evo and was definitely an itch I needed to scratch!

Niceone mate, gotta be done. I always fancied a Trophy myself hence buying mine before Christmas. Some are up for strong money, some more reasonable deals to be had. Enjoy the B road blats, mines on the road next week as my new daily after being a 'driveway ornament' for the last 3 months, keeps the miles down ;-).

good to hear you making moves... I walked out of a shop the other day and it simply made me grin looking at bright red clio sat there in the car park. love my Ti 182 but its just not the same effect... and that's from someone that would never buy a red car thru choice ;). but a Trophys got to be red.

Cheers guys and thank you for the welcome

Got a bit of an epic road trip planned to pick it up next week so will give me plenty of time to get to know the car.

Thanks again for the warm welcome guys

Happy to to report that I am now the proud owner of 493.

Had an epic 10 hour round trip to pick the car up and did 320 miles with no issues. Will post up some pics when she is nice and clean but blown away but how much fun this little car is :D
