A much discussed topic i know and ive tried to read through previous posts in case i have missed something, like everybody i would imagine, im looking at getting the cheapest insurance quote with the best cover.

i use the T now as a second car and if irrc others like hoolio who i spoke to briefly at the trophy meet in gaydon last year do aswell. i only seem to do aroun 5-6k a year and was wondering if insurance companies do take this into account and give you a discount or any so called specialist ins companies that do this?

a few that i had quotes with and my current ins(due for renewal very shortly) didnt seem to take into account the relative short mileage that i do.im probably just trying to split hairs and really i doubt that anything can be gained by declaring mileage per annum.

I'm sure they have various formulas in calculating the premiums and the annual mileage will be a small part of that.
Use for commuting is a significant one as that is when most bumps probably happen.

As usual though, no claims bonus, age, occupation and postcode are the key here.
Try Norwich Union as they are aggressive on prices at the moment. A month back, I got insurance on my Trophy (I am 33, solicitor, 5+ no claims, 6 points, very good poscode) for £280 fully comp. at 6,000 miles a year.

Adrian Flux were quoting around £600. Haven't tried the others.

For me Elephant were actually the cheapest of who I tried. Though I'm probably not that representative of owners on here in general. I'm 20, Student, 2 years NCB, good postcode, 5k miles p.a.(I wont even do that) fully comp for under £1400. I thought that was pretty good!

You did? Was I nice to you? :)

Unfortunately I think the mileage thing is only a very small part of their calculations, greenlight with limited 5k mileage were still pretty much the cheapest for me and even they were not great due to all my declared mods I think.

yes hoolio we did speak last year and i wasnt at all expecting you to remember me. i must say hoolio i didnt believe a word of what they were saying about you, everybody was warning me about you but you turned out to be a polite gent instead! :D

thanks for the replies tho, i wasnt really expecting low annual mileage to make much difference will try greenlight again tho last year they wernt that cheap and will try norwich union as a few others have had good quotes.

morethan gave me £346 or £419 inc monthly payments, 9+ yrs no claims, no points garaged at night as well maybe thers something a bit better. thanks for your help guys.

My insurance is due in a few weeks on a 172 cup and it's bad times!!

My renewal quote has gone up over £120, i was paying £480 and the renewal quote has come in at £607!!
Started looking around and i can't see to get it anywhere near last years price

I'm 28 with 10years ncb, living in a good area, car kept in a locked garage, no claims/convictions at all and the car is valued at about £3k.
To make it worse it looks like there are a lot of insurance companies out there that exclude the 172 'cup' from their cover!

Just got off the phone to kwikfit who's best quote was £735, even the call operator couldn't believe it!!

Every time there's an insurance post I am reminded of one (of the very few) advantages of being of a certain age :) . I'm not gloating, your day will come.

Meanwhile, you pay the price for pleasure - enjoy all the same!

Apologies - off topic really ;-)

Last year paid £799 renewal quote £1190 Cheapest I can find is £900 the rest are over the grand mark. 4yrs no claims age 24. It's a joke. One of the reasons number 259 will be off the road for the winter. Hopefully it should drop a bit when I turn 25.

My insurance went down this year, but only because I moved house. I'm 26, 6 yrs ncb, 10k a year (can come down a bit now), accountant and it's £600. It would be £500 if it wasn't for my wife who adds a bit to my premium.

Mine was basically the same as yours last year. I was 22 with 3 years no claims and was paying £870 with Greenlight, now im 23 with 4 years NCB and im paying £760. I was gutted to find out I can't protect my NCB until 5 years with Greenlight so fingers crossed I don't have an accident before my renewal is up.

I never seem to stick with the same insurer after one year, their renewals are usually an increase in premium even though the year goes by without incident. Currently with Admiral for £278, live in a low risk area, only 5999 miles a year (strangely the premium goes up if I say 6000 miles per year!) 9 years NCB, oh and I'm 38.

I have been with Admiral since owning the Clio. Last year they seemed to be the only company still offering a reasonable premium when the car has been modified.
Anyone else worth checking for a modified car?

I got my Policy with Avia this year on the Clio, they were £300+ clear of anyone else I tried. Think my premium is £480 or thereabouts, was very impressed
