I've just switched to Aviva, they're a lot more competitive that Norwich Union used to be. With there two months free offer it's worked out at £329 for the year with a £250 total excess, I'm 27, 7 years ncb (they work to 5 as maximum), car garaged. The only downside is their excess is £50, but I never bother with it anyway, if I need a solicitor I'll instruct one and claim costs back when I win. They've not charged any extra for the exhaust and won't add any extra for uprated braking system. For comparisson they were £110 less than greenlight and over £150 less than RAC who were the next cheapest for me when shopping around. Admiral were somewhere around £600 for me.

Just looked at aviva online on the back of this post as Im due on the 20th. They wanted £651 and im 29 with 11 years no claims (i know you cant use that many). Car is parked on street though. Guess it comes down to where you live in this case, being parked in the centre of Cambridge. so my renewal of £397 at greenlight is still my best offer

I was very upset by Saga (several years ago, dare I say) when i had an Evo 5 and they implied that I was too old for that sort of car - they have been on my blacklist ever since! I have found that specialist motorsports brokers are v helpful if the car is modified - I am with NU, all mods declared on the Integra (DC5) @ £325, includes protected NCB.

George, saga were a little stuffy some years back (according to a good mate of mine - I was inelligable at the time!) It seems they have caught up with the times - they were very slick and "non judgemental" when I insured, they had no worries with the brakes/pipe changes and offered all the usual protected ncb etc etc - plus my ncb counted equally for the 2 policies I have with them ( the T and my Range Rover) : that said they were not competetive with the premium for my 997 which was perhaps their new, polite way of saying "you are not in our typical target market, act your age and get a Jag"!

The big plus for me was the no questions asked european cover, important for me, considering where I now spend most of my time.

I think there are a lot more options for us "mature types" including the specialist insurers that were ridiculously expensive some years back when I was fresher!
