A couple of interesting reads in evo magazine this month:

1) JB rates the Williams superior over the Trophy
2) The 197 is deemed better than the Cup but comparison to Trophy is not made (yet!)

did'nt he say the top 3 were interchangeable depending on mood / journey / weather
....i'm still not sure about the 197 though...maybe they should have gone with the rear spoiler...the back end does seems to missing something....

It gives them something to do. I dare say Renault have been schmoozing all the Journos regarding the 197.

Really looking forward to reading their comparison between the Trophy and the 197 when it comes out, hopefully they will have a Williams and a few other hot hatch legends in the test as well.

What will be interesting will be if (or should it be when?) R'sport will do a Cup and maybe even a Trophy variant of the 197, that's when the 197 will really reach it's full potential...

Or drill plenty of 1.5" diameter holes.. I've been thinking about producing one and handing over the car with a big box of parts :)

The extra 15bhp has gone into moving an extra 150kg of mass.

182PS/1090kg = 167PS/Tonne
197PS/1240kg = 159PS/Tonne

So, the 197 would have to have 207PS to achieve the same power to weight ratio of the Trophy - an extra 10bhp.

But, acceleration is about torque and gear ratios and the 197 has 159lb/ft as opposed to 148lb/ft for the Trophy, and it has an extra gear ratio. But it's max power and torque are achieved at higher revs. But it has much cleverer timing that changes constantly and up to as much as 45 degrees rather than just once at 5500rpm 11 degrees (the 5K kick).

And lets not forget Renault's official time for the Trophy to 62mph was 6.9 secs, the same as the 197's figures.

But who gives a flying fuck about all these numbers? it's not going to be as much fun to drive with electric power steering and the equivalent of two fat blokes accompanying you on every journey. And £16 grand without the Sachs Race dampers?! Fuck off!
