I have been back and too to Renault with a rumble noise from the engine of my Trophy since I bought it. Each time they say they can't hear it, or that its a normal characteristic. So I took hime to Carlton Garage, Exmouth (Ren Specialist) for his 24k service and they traced the fault to the lower idler on the auxillary belt idler....they also spotted (instantly) that the air con was leaking gas and was almost empty! I've booked the car in for a warranty repair to deal.....thing is, I have swapped the original air-filter out for a K&N High Flow Filter (which obviously doesn't need to be changed at the service!)....can any one advise whether this will cause me problems in terms of the warranty, or whether it is ok to replace the filter......also, can anyone adivse if the Auxillary belt is separate to the Cam Belt in this engine?

The air filter will only invalidate warranty if it is deemed to be a possible cause of the failed part

eg. Aftermarket air filter would have no effect on say, a wheel bearing or something

Ta...the guys from Carlton Garage have suggested I just put a standard filter back in to avoid the inevitable wriggling that Ren UK do with just about all warranty claims....as I can't bring myself to trust or respect Ren UK I think I'll do that to avoid hastle. Fact is they'll probably deny that the fault exists even after I provide them with a written assessment!! I can see a battle coming!

Oh yeah they'll try and wriggle their way out of it, no 2 ways about it - just be prepared to stand your ground

Thing is, they will replace the OEM air filter if you put it back in - so you are effectively paying for a part you dont need - not sure how cheap/expensive they are though?
