I do apologise, my memory of the exact appearance of these cushions must have faded. You have fitted the bearing on the correct side of the cushion, but you need to rotate it the other way up. The 1st picture is the correct orientation, so that numbers are against the spring cap.

I agree. I`m not sure how supposedly grown men can make something so simple, so difficult. You pictured the bearing on the wrong side of the doughnut or rubber cushion or whatever you want to call it. And you will not need spring clamps either.

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ridex/13630579 The hole in the centre of doughnut is of sufficient diameter that there is nothing to prevent it`s removal or addition with the bearing, spacer and nut already in place.

    top mounts and bearings

Totally. Just consider it in terms that the doughnut is part of the bodyshell, and that bodyshell just rests on the bearing. Once the top cap is removed, the whole strut usually drops out, leaving the doughnut in place in the turret.

That is the modified kit 543A09780R, for some reason it does not include the replacement 1 piece spacer/nut 8200867250 that is required for it to function.

These are the correct original parts.

    top mounts and bearings

NEITHER. The doughnut is NOT part of the assembled strut, and frequently remains in the underside of the turret when removing said strut. Please read post 35 again. The correct order is spring cap, then the bearing with the numbers out of sight against the spring cap, followed by which ever...

Very good. "Daily driver dust" I`m afraid.

If the nut pictured is a separate item from the top cap, it is from the updated modification kit 543A09780R. It should not make contact with the top of the turret if everything is assembled correctly.

Affirmative. I would guess the garage has a vice and a drill bit though,

    top mounts and bearings

You will have to use the original top covers with nuts to fit over the 17mm half nut. The new ones are flat bottomed. If you have a drill and a 16mm drill bit, modification should take 5 seconds per side.
  13. O

    top mounts and bearings

The new 27mm nut replaces the original spacer and 17mm half nut ( spanner sizes ). Put the original spacer and nut to one side as they are no longer required. Renault originally got the design of the 27mm item wrong, and these are faithfull copies of that item. Using a 16mm drill bit, remove...

Leave Jack alone, he`s got 600 to do, in a draughty industrial unit on a camera phone. I thought Dave`s video was very appreciative of what the car is.

80k, but not many miles since 2007. Mot till August, no advisory`s. I suspect the guide price is a little low. https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-526---2002-renault-clio-sport/?lot=26498&so=0&st=&sto=0&au=68&ef=&et=&ic=False&sd=0&pp=96&pn=6&g=1

Strangely, I had the opposite experience. I ordered the cheapest rear tailgate struts they listed, and they substituted with more expensive items at the same price. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

SNR are Renaults preferred bearing manufacturer of choice. Renault have now killed the bearing 8200651172, and only supply a complete kit. If you only need to replace a worn bearing, which is common to both configurations, this is the item. Feel free to find a better price...

I gave you the answer to that in post 10 of this thread, though you will likely have to remove some threads from the nut, as I had too with the OE nuts that RPD supplied to me, to prevent them becoming thread bound before contacting the bearing ...
