Rear discs getting pitted.?

Hi.
On my car over the last 12 or so months ive noticed the rear discs have been getting rusty/ pitted. I had an advisory on the last MOT about this, and as its that time again, was wondering if this is a common occurance on these little hot hatches..
My car isn't used as a daily car , more like a occasional run when I feel I want too, a "toy" in effect...
Do the rear callipers have a tendancy of seizing up. OR is it more likely that the rears dont need to work that much anyway...
The handbrake does work, but not very efficiently.

Rear calipers dont do that much compared to the fronts, how long have the rear discs been on? If they keep surface rusting then are cleaned up once or twice a week they perhaps thats causing them to be pitted rather than being used daily?!

An mot hint is go for a normal drive with the handbrake on one or two clicks for a bit. Helps clean the disc's up.

Hadn't heard of such a method before! Can it increase the effectiveness of the handbrake?

The only way it majes the handbrake and rear brakes more effective is that they have a clean surface to work on

I found if I left the handbrake on for any period of time more than a week, particularly if there was moisture in the air or car was wet when parked, the rear pads would 'cease' to the discs.

So I stopped using the handbrake and simply left it in gear. No issue as was garaged on the flat.

Without use rust will always appear on surfaces like discs.

If O/S pads have worn twice as much as N/S then either the sliders are sticking or caliper was not set up right when fitted.

What exactly do you mean by not set up right? It was a well regarded specialist that fitted them so hopefully it's just the sliders.
