I'm new here so thought I would introduce myself. My name is Jack and I have been on a few car forums in my time having owned a number of different cars.

Iv been over on CS.net... It's ok for a laugh but it's not really that good for technical help and you can never be on too many forums.

So in brief, had the Clio since March, sold my Audi TT as I was doing less mileage (use to be driving from Chester to Coventry pretty much every weekend!) and fancied something small, cheap to insure and fun. I had previously owned a 106 Rallye for a couple of years and I loved it so initially looked at those again but could bring my self to go from a fully kitted out TT to such a raw car again... Enter the Clio Sport 172! shopped around and eventually got this one from a dodgy dealer in Nottingham. I paid over the odds because I went in blind, but it's been a decent car and if I don't think about how much money it's cost/going to cost to get properly sorted, I can keep enjoying it! Haha.

Here is the old rallye!

and then there was the TT

then came the Clio! This is as I got it. On cut springs...ruined dampers, budget tyres and scrubbed toyos on the front oh...and 3 wheel bolts all over tightened in each wheel... As I said, dodgy garage! They let me drive 300+ miles home on it after assuring me they had swapped the wheel bolts and fitted "lowering springs"

The first job was replace the springs, so swapped them for 182 cup items and sort the wheel bolts. That was done a week after getting the car. I then set about cleaning it up with a full paint polish with my DA, fitted a new exhaust mount, standard airbox and filter to replace the open Pipercross, some fresh number plates and a Skoda splitter. How it stands now.

I have also had new Kumho's fitted, and have a garage full of bits ready to service the car next weekend. Once that's sorted I will be getting the experts to do a belt and Dephaser replacement. I have ordered the belts and Dephaser swapped. I already have the Dephaser...just need someone to put them all on properly for me! :)

So that's where I'm at!

Cheers guys! :) once the Dephaser and belts are done im going to finish off on the suspension. It would benefit from new top mounts, spacers and bearings as well as bump stops and dampers. Being lowered on cut springs has done them no favours. Will be replacing them with Cup 172 dampers all around for a little on road improvement. There are a few other things I want to do as well. But it's my daily drive and we are saving for a house so progress will be slow.

Brake refresh is on the cards with new pads and discs all around and some braided lines as well and a few creature comforts like some decent interior mats, aux cable for the standard stereo and a general tidy up in other areas to get it to a presentable daily drive standard.

Couple more photos of the Clio with the other halves KA after a good wash!

Brings back memories for me, I had an iceberg silver 172 back in 2001 from new. Great cars and the chassis was even more playful than the Trophy!

There is a bit of work to be done to mine to bring it back up to scratch, but it's a nice reliable little daily drive! It's a bloody hoot at the weekends as well! :p took it for a bit of a run out last weekend and remembered why I love a good hot hatch so much! The feedback the car gives you is as confidence building as my old rallye and you know exactly where you stand with it and where it's limits are!

We need to keep enjoying these cars as there will never be cars like this again, MK.11 clio 172,182 and Trophy, hot hatches at their best!
Simple no frills fun!
Love my trophy, just taken it out for a blast for the first time in a while, never selling it. I have been using a Silverstone Edition MK111 200 and while yes its a wonderful car, it cant' beat my trophy for fun and its not really any faster, especially low down, serious lack of torque.

Couldn't agree more with you! I even wrote a story about the end of this generation of hot hatches for my website! :) these cars have gone something that the new generation don't, and that's a lack of driver aids. These cars are all about feeding to driver information so they can push it rather than the car doing all the work!
