Hi all,

I think my alternator is on the way out... I have a strange whining noise at around 2K RPM and when I stopped and popped the bonnet I found that my alternator was very hot! To hot to touch, is this normal?

Secondly, should there be a cover/guard at the front of the alternator to stop crap and water directly hitting the alternator from the grill?

Cheers,
Rob

im guessing you need an alternator as mine done the same.
Mine was smelling and it give me large concern incase of a fire.
I would get it changed ASAP along with the Aux Belt Kit.

There should be a small plastic guard that goes over the grill to protect it, Mine was missing so as soon as i changed my alternator and aux belt i put one on ASAP as its protects the belt also.
The small plastic guard has renault tax and it is a nice £68 for something about the size of your hand.

Cheers for the info ! That is very handy to know. I think I will replace it however just at the moment I am not definitely sure it is on the way out but I am pretty sure it is. I will keep a close eye on it.

The belts, tensioner and pulleys where all changed about 100 miles ago so no need for replacements :)
