Lmao. Mate it’s not even a Trophy. Just a council spec 182. Its my daily driver, does 50 miles a day and covered 125k miles so far and used every single day come rain or shine.

So, remember the roll centre hubs that looked like they had been at the bottom of Davy Jones Locker? Let me refresh your memory... Well after a heap of work, wire brushing, glass blasting etc. They arrived back from zinc coat this morning. Once built I think these have come out pretty...

    Jacking technique

Quickly knocked up some pics on my phone showing front and rear jacking points I use. If your car is low, some low rise ramps really help on the front especially Using the centre of the rear beam provides lots of options for stands. You can see how much room you have.

Great job on the sills dude. As for jacking, I never jack any car on the sills. Always jack on the subframe to chassis mounting areas and then place a stand under the central chassis rails. Do this for each side at the front. Then place the jack centrally on the rear torsion beam and raise...

Stainless ABS brackets arrived. Also arrived were the strut lower lock nuts from @Simon@ASTUK, thank you sir. ?? Brackets are pukka, but like many of these things, the supplied hardware was s**t. The only stainless M6x12 I had was a countersunk so had to add some panel washers. Quite possibly...

So, today’s cleaning job, the scuttle. I was keen to check the scuttle drains were nice and clear as this can cause trouble at a later date. I think looking at it, this was last done before I sold it in 2015 and hasn’t been done since. Wiper arms and scuttle panels removed and cleaned. Also...

Frayz’s Inferno orange 182 - Back in the old flame

So continuing to Carpé Diem thanks to the lockdown, I managed to crack on with another job I’ve been putting off due to time. I battled some crazy changeable weather today and fitted my AST 5100 dampers. These were fitted alongside PMS spherical bearing topmounts and matching brace. The drilled...

Havent polished the old shed since buying it back last June. Today I finally got some time to give it a jolly up. Took a small walk around video on my phone, not the best quality but you get the idea

So, next little job was refreshing the tailgate emblems. I’d already replaced these about 7 years, but after 15 years the chrome badges were looking tired again. I had deliberated at length over if I should fit the cleaner and more modern Renault Sport from the 197 cars. Or do I stay period...

Loving this social distancing, apart from feeling like death. Cabin fever has me doing little jobs on WZD that I’ve just not had a moment to do. New genuine grille badge, amazing how much difference this has made as mine has a fine rash over it from 125k miles of enjoyment. Next was a...

Few more parts arrived. New wipers, boot struts, ARB brackets, 197 RS badge and a cheeky keyring. Although still no time to spend on the car, I did at least fit the boot struts which make the tailgate feel like brand new. Well worth it.

Hubs progressing. All parts that required glass blast have been blasted. I was let to believe the bearings in them were almost new, and they probably were. However due to the corrosion i decided to replace them anyway. Glad i did as they were stuck in pretty damn tight and took a good 16 ton...

Frayz’s Inferno orange 182 - Back in the old flame

Haven’t had any time on the car lately due to other commitments but have at least started the strip down and clean up of the roll centre hubs. I’ve all new bearings and rose joints to fit when they’re reassembled. The plan is to get them fully stripped, blasted and plated before fitting.

Thanks dude. ? Ha, yeah someone else text me this morning to tell me about it. Very pleased and proud to have the old girl noticed. I’m so pleased to have it back and have been loving every minute of tweaking it to what I want it to be. Nice to have Pistonheads think so too. ?

Frayz’s Inferno orange 182 - Back in the old flame

Had a few other odds and ends arrive for WZD this week, some planned, some less so. Lol. Won a brand new old stock front grille emblem for less than £8 which was a right result considering mines looking a little gravel rashed these days and they’re about £30 new from Renault. 2 sets of...

Going from a more powerful car to a Trophy?

A GP2 is a totally different car, turbocharged Peugeot engine as opposed to the supercharged Chrysler. Also never had a proper Diff, just an edit which was basically the front brakes clamping the spinning wheel. Adjustable dampers fail constantly and most have now been binned for aftermarket. I...

Frayz’s Inferno orange 182 - Back in the old flame

So I’ve been struggling to find time to get these in the car but finally pleased to say they’re in. I spent time removing the birds from the side mounts so as to not scratch the shells, painting washers and capping bolts to make it looks as close to an OEM finish as possible. The car finally...

Going from a more powerful car to a Trophy?

This is a cutout of a reply I put on Pistonheads the last time I was asked about my GP1. Make of it what you will. Lol. “Crap awful build quality and reliability. Awful traction control that was borderline dangerous that had to be turned off at the start of every journey. My Clio gave me 84k...

Going from a more powerful car to a Trophy?

Andy, I’ve just had some AST 5100s build specifically for fast road so would be cool to back to back them with a Trophy as it was my aim to have a better driving road car than the Trophy but still capable on track if you dial them up.

Going from a more powerful car to a Trophy?

In addition to the above comments I would say only buy a Trophy if you “Must” have the prevalence of a Trophy. I say that as they still have their faults. By no means am I knocking the cars at all, but go in with your eyes open. The Sachs dampers whilst excellent, are not without their caveats...

Going from a more powerful car to a Trophy?

Personally I’d buy on condition and spec over if it’s a 172/182 or trophy. Miles are irrelevant on these cars if they have been mechanically maintained and well cared for. Buy one well cared for by a level headed enthusiast and I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
