Frayz’s Inferno orange 182 - Back in the old flame

One thing that is quite amusing now. Now ive got the Clio much closer to where i want it in terms of feel, handling and driving position etc. I get in the Cayman and it feels like im a little high. Haha Nuts isn't it.

I use Pagids recommendation. TBH ive always bedded in as per whoever manufactures the pads suggest. After all its their product and ive never had an issue with Pagid either.

Managed to go for my first socially distanced drive out yesterday and caught up with @MrBlonde in his minty fresh Titanium and his friend Will in his lovely black Meg. Took a leisurely jaunt out to Bradwell and even stopped for some snaps. So nice to get out and drive for just the enjoyment of...

Finally some stopping power the little Clio deserves. My pads of choice arrived today, I chose these based on my own experience as I’ve used them for years on my other cars. Pagid RSL29s front Pagid RS4-2 rears I also dropped my black Turinis a the powdercoaters yesterday, these have been...

Yeah the base is £23.23 and part number 8200129134. The lid is separate and about £17 quid i think. Sorry i don't have the number for that bit, My lid was still tidy so didn't bother swapping it. Both are available off the shelf mate :)

That white clip is a known issue for getting damp and the ECU throwing a hissy fit because of it. If you look at the pin on the rear row, far left, it had some corrosion on it (green staining) and i cleaned all these back to bright copper. Always surprises me how cheaply made the Clios...

Frayz’s Inferno orange 182 - Back in the old flame

Small but satisfying job today. When I originally owned the car I was always careful around the delicate and rather fragile fuse box clip. These were fragile at the best of times, and sure enough, when I bought the car back, this had been broken off. I’d been meaning to replace the fuse box for...

The car actually has a full interior inc rear seats. However the buckets do not slide forward far enough to rear passengers. So my rear seats are currently for decoration only lol. Because of this I’m very tempted to remove them, carpet the rear and fit a Clubsport style rear cage to make it a...

Thank you sir, very kind of you to say. She's just my daily driver but i love it more all the time. As said before, its no show pony and plenty here far nicer than mine, however its getting ever closer to exactly how i want it. I like to tinker if i get the time and the Clio allows me to...

So this week not long after I’ve fixed the ball joint issue, I turn the steering on the drive and hear the weirdest of creeking noises. Only happened on right lock, not on left, wasn’t rotational and didn’t increase frequency with speed. It was just a weird creeking A noise that didn’t really...

Latest tinker has been giving the heat shields a jolly up. Nothing fancy, just removed, scrubbed with degreaser, 2 coats of Zinc primer and then 2 coats of VHT silver. I made up some large load spreaders with some spare Nimbus sheet and refitted with new hardware. Far from show standard but a...

    New Suspension All Round?

Id be inclined to check with someone who knows Trophys like Mark Fish just to confirm. But i really don't think you'll be miles away with a Pro kit for a standard looking ride height or indeed the Sportlines for something slightly more purposeful looking. Neither kit "slams" the car.

    New Suspension All Round?

Not sure how much this helps, if at all. This was my car (182 FF with Cup chassis) on standard Cup dampers and Sportline springs. I believe the Pro kit is an uprated spring which drops a Cup car about 10mm so similar to that of a standard Trophy. The Sportlines pictured below drops a standard...

    New Suspension All Round?

Exactly, and if they're that close on a damper dyno, i think youd need to be Senna or Fangio to tell the difference with a bum dyno. Buy cup dampers, spray them silver, job done :)

    New Suspension All Round?

Interesting topic, I'd like to see Trophy owners do the "Pepsi Challenge" with Eibachs own Sportlines vs Mark Fish Eibachs and the Sach rear dampers vs Cup rear dampers. I'll stick my neck out here and say i'm willing to bet from the drivers seat, theres almost zero difference apart from...

Yes I believe that was the case in its previous ownership. I think it was just touching on full droop. My ASTs limit the droop so this cannot happen in my application. Just a standard paint marker. Just a habit of mine when tightening any significant external fasteners I always mark them. Just...

So as of last Monday I’ve been removed from furlough and sent back to work. This means I could finally get some wheel time and enjoy driving the little Clio again. Thursday night as I pulled off the drive, and heard what I thought was a knock from the OS front. Bugger!!! First look I could get...

Got the inners sills in satin black and then lots and lots of Dynax UB. These come with a longer tube nozzle which means you can get it right around the arches and hard to reach areas. I also Dynax’d from the door moldings down, so if moisture does indeed come in those areas then it’s all...

So when i first got the car back last June, i quickly popped off the rear door cards to have a look at the extent of any possible corrosion back there, and if i needed to act urgently on anything. Fortunately it all looked okay and i just dumped a load of Waxoyl on it and left it for another...

So to finish up, I dusted the lifting eyes with some zinc and satin black before refitting those. There was also some lengths of M6 stainless cap heads I didn’t have in stock so I’ll get some more of those, namely for the coil pack and such. Boxed the rest of the car up this morning and called...

Frayz’s Inferno orange 182 - Back in the old flame

Started the strip down for the cam cover paint today. Spent a good hour or more prepping and cleaning the cover with a mix of various things, Billberry wheel cleaner, iron x, brake cleaner, various wire wheel fittings in a drill to get the cover as clean as possible. Then rinsed and washed with...
