Sadly I can no longer claim one owner, but had a good run with Ruby. For anyone doing comparisons, I was owner from new to Dec 2020 when there was a write off 😕 One person bought salvage, did a bit and sold on to a member here, who has really looked after her.
Well, plate came off 265 and onto this tub of fun. Still miss Ruby, but there's a reason that you can put down cash for the new Lotus on a Q1 2022 build slot, but the "Yaris" you put down cash for waiting list for as yet unconfirmed 2023 UK allocation.
Been a few weeks and laughably good...
Cheers. Sadly, they've done their homework on the buyback  the lass actually double checked as it was the highest salvage value she'd ever seen on a Mk 2 clio.
£7k offer. 120k on the clock. Given if I ask them to probe too closely they may pick up on the fact I had (declared) previous damage that still hadn't been sorted from previous sideswipe. Tempted to take the money and run after no more than a token effort to get another £500. May check about...
Thanks for the misc PMs folks, not been able to access them all for some reason. May have to delete some 2005 era ones. Things that have come out of this: never insure with Tesco, they really are poor; Most new hot hatches are quick, but a little disconnected; The GR Yaris is utterly ridiculous...
But will have to pay to get it trailered from where it is (Liverpool) and have nowhere to store in order to strip. Can't just tear a car down on the roadside ?
Will work the offer up and won't be taking the first cash by any means. Sadly don't have the space to strip myself and the chassis is not well, plus would have to trailer her back home. Managed to get payment in lieu of repair last time a similar thing happened, but she may be beyond sensible...
I've owned Ruby from new and she's been dinked by idiots in the past, but at the weekend she was shunted really badly by a Beemer the plod were chasing and I'd be amazed if she's not Cat B'd - be prepared for some slightly worn Recaros and some Turinis in need of a refurb to magically appear...
Interesting option to consider there. My main driver in looking to replace is that I've had a couple of issues with CDs ejecting (sticking) and skipping on smaller bumps than I remember it doing so. For an OEM head, it's not shabby. Also find myself wanting to connect phone sources more these...
Hey folks, looks like I'm sorted for the Steering wheel stalk connector, and am looking at an Alpine Single DIN head. What are the thoughts on speaker upgrades, worth it or not? If so, what direct replacement units have people used and got on with?
Cheers
Has anyone fitted an aftermarket stereo using the connects2 adaptors to enable the steering stalk controls and "clock display" to work? Toying with a replacement head, but want to make sure the adaptors work OK first. Also, any recommendations for replacement speakers that fit the existing...
Odd question, but how many owners from new are on here? Looking at cars up for sale recently re. insurance drama, would appear there is a bit of turnover. Never owned a car as long as Ruby, wouldn't want to lose her...
Quick update, although Aviva admit they made a bollocks of the claim initially (I've got a compensation offer under review) the dude at the repairers and the outsourced "engineering" company have priced repair and have made a fair payment in lieu offer, which should enable me to get the work...
Ok, damage to two quarters and a wheel dink means they're declaring my baby BER as OEM parts no longer available. 115k, FSH, one owner from new, bonnet scratches and car park dink, plus a worn gearknob and loose gaiter. New clutch, waterpump, dephaser, battery and cam belt in last couple of...
I had my cam belt done a couple of weeks ago, did dephaser and water pump at same time as both were original and former was getting noisy. As it goes, clutch also but that's as it was getting noisy too. They were impressed that they were original with 120k on madame.
Well, mine's packed it. RAC towing Ruby to local Renault specialists. Will be interesting to see what the recommend.
When I say specialist, the guys variously drive Megane Trophy, V6 Turbo Alpine and new shape Meggy RS.
