Nice one! The VX makes the Trophy look LARGE. Doesn't happen often. A VX220 and a Trophy - An example of the fun that can be had if you're not a badge snob.

The reg plate has been in the family for years....previuosly been on a 172, V6, golf gti (which I had at uni in huddersfield - if your from halifax could have seen it there??) and a puma.

It was nice having them both for a day....the VX was loads of fun...was sad to see it go.

Great driveway photo. My Vx had to go to fund the Trophy so I couldn't manage the double act.
Which do you prefer?

My VX went initally to fund a house purchase. That all fell through so I bought the trophy marginally before I released the VX.

In all honesty (and I'm ready for a flaming here...) I do prefer the VX over the trophy. For me, you just cant beat RWD. The VX was an absolute hoot to drive, and in the summer getting the roof off an added bonus. Plus telling people you drove a 'tesco value lotus' was entertaining, as nobody had a clue what a VX220 was, or is. Yes the suspension is crashy on the VX and the roof leaked, but thats what i loved about it - a bit of character. Dont get me wrong, the trophy is a cracking little car, and I have definately made the right choice in buying it as a replacement for the VX. The suspension is fantastic, the engine is brilliant (much better than the 2.2 in the VX), especially at 5k when it feels like your going into warp speed.

Still aiming for an exige though!

Twofivenine - no flames from me. Physically there is no way a Trophy can be as good to drive as the VX (e.g. centre of gravity etc.).

However I think the main point for me is that I can have fun with 5 people in the car and also have fun on the way to the shops etc. while in a VX et al. I don't think the car would survive the bi-weekly trip to Costco.

With a VX you may need two cars, while the Trophy can replicate both a daily driver and a great (but not the best) track car.

Just my 2 cents!

Cheers

P.S. current supercharged Exige would be a great car to drive!

Ollie....the VX suited me just fine - all the boys have their five seater hatchbacks (A3's, golfs etc) so whenever a road trip was on the cards, or a night out in a far off place, I never got the short straw and had to drive!! Or got out of picking my sister up from uni - it was beneficial in sooo many ways.

Plus, as with the trophy, you always ended up on the long roads to the shops!

Fair enough :)

I like to drive to Belgium/France/Germany for a long weekend and just can't see myself squeezing in the luggage for both myself and a partner.

That said I have not actually seen the 'boot' space of the Vx so my opinion is pretty much invalid!!!

boot space isnt bad actually, could fit in a lot more than people gave it credit for. Easily enough for two people's luggage for a weekend away. Weekyl shopping was no problem (I do live on my own though...).

My old man has just text me, our local renault dealer has got a 52 plate V6 in. Didnt see it this morning when i droppped mine off for a new 02 sensor, but tempted to try and work a deal on it. Somebody stop me!

No flames from here either, always good to hear peoples opinions on other cars, especially in direct comparsion with the Trophy. I would absloutely love a VX Turbo (preferably the VXR220) or an Elise/Exige, but age, money and the fact I would have to amputate my legs first to get in one, prohibit. Besided I love hot hatches as I'm relatively new to this driving thing and want to stay with nice predictable FWD for a couple more years. I know what you mean about character too, I can't reason why but I loved the fact I didn't know whether my 205 GTI was going to make it to work every day and if I was going to survive backing off mid-corner.

VX.
Character in bucket loads. Agreed

The sort of character that I failed to appreciate when I took all 4 wheels off it on a tight 90 right in light drizzle. I didn't even get the chance to shape my mouth into the first letter of an "oh-my-god" exclamation before the rear number-plate passed the front on its way off the road. The last car I had spun has been an old Mk2 Escort (the full 1.3. Respect please - it had a black vinyl roof).

I'm not saying the Vx is 's a widow-maker as the tub is as strong as you realistically need unless you are intent on doing yourself injury, but there's plenty out there (Vx or VXT which have had replacement panels.

By the time mine had been fixed I have to say I had lost my nerve and was already smitten with the thought of a Trophy - safe(r) FWD and far more engaging at sus-stupid mph than my Scoobies.

What an allrounder - the Vx is 10/10 with the bits it does well. Tolerating with a fool of a driver with clumsy reactions and a thick head early in the morning is not one of them.

The centre of gravity in a vx isnt that great after all it has the engine from a front wheel drive car so it has a high pivotal point or at least that was what a guy once told me on a track day when I commented on how good a passenger ride was in one.

That's bollocks, the VX has about as low a centre of gravity as possible in a road car, lower than some race cars I imagine, it makes me laugh when engineers talk about the Subaru boxer engine having a lower centre of gravity than a standard in-line four, as if that makes the slightest bit of difference in a four door saloon! It's just good packaging and a well balanced engine, Ford tried a V4 in the eighties, it was coarse and horrible.

Maybe he was referring to the overall design of the engine and transmission, being designed for a FWD, it would have a more upright configuration than the same unit designed for midship location. Oh dear I've just countered my own argument, what a twat.
