Has anyone read this months EVO?

In the fast fleet section there is a write on how much all of Harrys cars cost him for servicing etc and apparently he has just had the cambelt done on the Trophy and it cost him £1206.55!?! Apparently more than his 550 Marrenello!

He obviously doesnt come on here that often otherwise he would have saved a bit of money :)

Just the thread ive been looking for.
My trophy is due its 5 year cambelt change and ive just been quoted £950. Having just forked out in excess of £600 on refurbing the sachs it makes me feel sick. How much of a saving can be found over this and where?

Jenks are you keeping it now? I take it the £950 is from Delfryn? Go and see a guy called 'Exley' in Clarach, he's a very good mechanic and would be a hell of a lot cheaper than £950.

Hows it going? Dunno what to do with it to be honest. Yeah Delfryn is a bit of a rip off merchant so deffo wont be paying that, had a few quotes around the 350 quid mark so i can breathe a sigh of relief now. Had the sachs freshened up too, feels new again!!

Sorry Sam for hijacking the thread!

Yeah I'm good mate, you? I haven't seen you around in ages! Delfryn is a bit of a rip off! His head mechanic is one of my mates, when I need mine done he's coming over to my place with the Renault tools to do it, I'm pretty lucky, because some of these cambelt quotes are insane!

I've got my suspension booked in for the 8th of this month, looking forward to seeing how they feel when they come back! How much better have you noticed the ride?

£350 - Pretty good price though!

A bit of trip then, Try Excley! If I wasn't getting my mate to do it I would use him. I would say that he would be about the same price if not even cheaper than £350.

Excley's number is 01970 820 098 - Nantllan Ind Est

Guys,

Seeing as everyone is coming up to cambelt changes I thought I'd share this info...
I got quoted from Renault £730 for the cambelt change, which I thought holy Sh........t.

Anyway once I questioned the cost this does include the aux belt kit (3 yrs instead of 5), I got mine done in December 2008.
Also Renault are doing a 30% off for parts and labour at the mo. (Assuming this is Renault rather than the garage)
The price now just for the cambelt change is around the 400 mark.

So make sure its just the cambelt you want doing rather than the whole lot (providing the aux belt kit was done).

Hope this helps. ?

I just had the full 72k service including full cam belt and full aux kit, genuine Renault parts for £680 from K-tech racing.

couldn't really argue with that price.

Just paid £515 which also included a service with Elf oil. That was with NorthWest Performance.

I've also had a previous RS done by Birchdown with service which was about £100 more.

I paid £420ish at birchdown..
Plus, i read something the other day from the opie oils rep saying how elf oil is like a fake-synthetic oil.. not good basically. Silkolene ftw.

I Paid £530 for the following on my 172 cup.

cambelt and pulley kit
auxiliary belt
water pump
dephaser pulley

It's an easier job on the 172cup and there are not auxiliary belt pulleys to replace so i'd say it's in fitting with what everyone else has been paying roughly.

Would be interested to know exactly what Harry had done on his for the price they mention in EVO.

On the Trophy or your old 1.2. That must be your old 1.2 as cars with aircon/climate are alot more.

And that's the first time I've ever heard anyone say ill of Elf Oil.

That was on the Trophy! (excluding service i should have said)

I can't the thread anywhere now, but it was basically saying theres a law which allows them to claim its synthetic when its only partially true (not like a fully synthetic oil like silkolene)

I think Elf oil will be okay, it is specced for all Renault engined championships afterall...

I just paid £470 for full 72k service (no more, no less) with gen parts at northwest performance. There seems to be such a massive difference in prices!

Are northwest performance good ? I need to get mine done somewhere in North Wales / North West. It's been to Birchdown before and I've had no problems but if I could save money going to North west performance I'd definately take it there.
