Small update. My dampers are back from BG and new rear Sach dampers arrived along side some Powerflex rear upper strut mounts.

So with all these new parts do I fit the old strut tops in the picture below? I have cleaned them up best I can but would like to hear from you guys.

Nice looks like the pile of bits I have. If your like me your dying to get them all back on.

Yeah as you say "I'm dying" to get everything fitted and to try it out. Do you think those strut tops will be alright?

Sach's look awesome, as they have been done maybe worth buying new strut tops as already done most expensive bit. Either that or De-Ox them and get a lick of primer/paint on them.

Yeah renaulpartsdirect have them for £12.50 each so might be easier just replacing them than to de-ox and prime them. Because they are out of sight Iwas unsure whether or not just to use them again as they are.

For the relatively small outlay I'd replace the strut tops so they match the shiny Sachs :)

I gave it its first coat of rust treatment and I there's not much happening. It must just be corrosion if so I'll give it a coat of paint and see how it looks.

Scrap the above comment. I went to town with the wire brush with the treatment applied and rinsed off then scrubbed with a brillopad. Looks much better than before. Do I now spoil it all by attempting painting them?

Well I've made a rookie mistake when ordering the top mounts, I forgot to order the spacer. My rebuild it on hold till I got them delivered :(

I best crack on with sorting the splitter and fitted the aux cable.

Well yesterday was D-day, the day I attempted refitting my dampers with new springs and oem top mounts. I decided to paint the spring top hats just to protect them, I won't win any awards for my painting ability.

It took me a while to get everything together as this was my first ever attempt at anything like this. After assembling everything I was a little unnerved by the amount of movement the rubber donut had but after posting on Facebook and asking a few people this is normal.

I decided to fit the passenger side first, after applying a bit of copper grease to the hub and damper I managed to get it in place and bolted up with no real drama however when it came to tightening up the top mount the drama began. The shaft started to turn with the nut and muggings here forgot to buy a 21mm offset spanner so I could go any further. (Thanks to Amazon Prime one arrive this morning)
After this set back I went about fitting the drivers side. This damper was a pita to get in place however after keeping my cool I managed to manoeuvre it into position and tighten up the bolts and top mount.

With me unable to go any further I decided to remover the bumper and try to get the splitter to sit better. Having never removed a bumper ever I watched a video on YouTube and followed to HowToGuide on ClioSport. A bit of faffing about and I had it off. I set about removing all the screws and cutting off any protruding plastic which would stop sitting flush. I had to drill a couple of new holes in the bumper and splitter but it is now sitting much better. It's not perfect but much better.

Now armed with a 21mm spanner I set about tightening up the top mounts. Easy peasey when you have the right tools.

With everything tightened it was time to remove the axles stands. Here is a few pictures of how the mounts looked before removing them.

I removed the passenger side axle stand first, then the drivers side. Sadly when lowering the latter I heard a noise and the top mount sitting proud of the turret. :( Sadly I never got any pictures but it meant removing the damper and checking everything, I think I didn't have the spring compressed enough when fitted the top hat and top mount. I went about refitting and yet again it was pita to fit in the hub. My persistence paid off and after lower the Jack there were no surprises. The top mounts don't sit flush like they did when on the stands but look both sit the same and like others I have seen.

Took it up and down the road and all seems well. I was going to attempt to change the rear dampers and springs myself but I have decided against it. I'll get my pal to do it at his garage instead there are any difficulties.

Anyway the eagle eyed of you would of noticed the car was in need of a wash as my garage is awfully dusty. I had cleaned the wheels before refitting them so it didn't take long to have it looking fresh again.

Anyway it's another long winded, picture happy post from myself and I hope after it being off the road for 4 weeks I can now get back to driving it.

Well done looks like a fun job but glad you got it all done and happy with having the shocks and springs back on.

The hardest part for me was reassembling the damper, spring, top hat and top mount. Took me a few goes to find the right position for the spring compressor which have left a few marks in the springs but that was always going to happen and in hindsight I probably should of used masking tape to protect them.

I'll be happy when the rears are fitted then I'll let them settle and get the alignment done to make sure all it well.

Just a quick update.

New rear Sach dampers, rear Cooksport springs and Powerflex upper mounts fitted on Friday. The stance is so much better, poor surfaces are much more noticeable but I can life with that.

Now.

Last night I decided to fit my new front HC discs and DS2500 pads. I had my hand forced by an unwanted birthday present. Having been told that I need to remover material for the pads to fit I'm so glad I had a grinder to hand as my plan to use sand paper failed miserably. Never got any pictures as I was to eager to finish.

So this week I'm going to have to use the Trophy as the Mini has taken a sore one, £679 for a new headlight from BMW. Going to try a DIY fix but swapping over lenses. Lovely thing to happen on your way to work especially on my birthday.

Still got a few things to do.
1. Get exhaust leak fixed
2. Fit aux cable
3. Buy and fit wiper mod
4. Fresh brake fluid
5. Buy interior trim/colour change
6. Steering wheel retrim - due to cost, this will be later in the year.
