So, it turns out the Clio wouldn't fire up because Ive bent 8 valves due to a belt slip (or at least it looks like a belt slip)

My mechanic is on the job and starting to get things in motion. He's trying to do the job as cheap as possible for me so wanted to ask around at what the going rate would be for replacing 8 valves, cambelt change etc, generally rebuilding the top end. He's a bit unsure on what to charge so wants to charge as little as possible without losing money lol

Any ideas on repair costs for this?

Sorry to hear that Chris, makes my misfire and paine in the arse new exhaust fitting seem trivial.
Hope all gets sorted OK at reasonable cost.

Cheers lads, its a bit soul destroying with all the crap ive had to deal with since buying this car but onwards and upwards, if we dont smile and crack on then whats the point :)

Dont think there's any piston damage Rik, or at least nothing has been mentioned. My mech has started ordering parts in and will be back on the road next week hopefully. Just need to get some funds together but hes happy to do the work whilst I get the money sorted

Bloody hell that's bad luck mate. If you need the use of a workshop or car lift I'll be happy to help you out if you need it. I can set the timing on an F4R no problem. Looks like you have it all in hand though.

I'll dig my receipt out tomorrow, think mine needed 4 valves but not 100% sure. I had ran mine for a while after the timing jumped due to something smashing through the cam belt cover and ran it for approx 6k miles before it finally gave up. I think I paid £450 ish for the work which was cheap, and as a matter of course had the head gasket / water pump replaced whilst sealing my leaking rocker.

Hope you get it sorted, theres plenty of places to get spares or parts, but I feel your pain.

Would also suggest checking all heat shields, manifold, steering rack / inner tie rods whilst you've got the engine out as cheap fixes whilst it is.

This was part of the initial damage to the aux belt, hanging by a thread is an understatement!

Make sure valve guides are checked, normally a bent valve will damage them.

Here's the work I had done, wasn't the best 6 months but my insurers paid approx 70% of both bills.
