Hello,
I found this post from 2006, relating to a 172 with the same problem. I hope it helps.
I guess it might be worth looking at another car to get a better idea where the target is before dealing with yours. Good luck..
See below...
lol my mate sorted it today, took about 5 minutes total...
Might be worth passing on advice from BG motorsport. They see dampers back for attention earlier than expected in very low milage cars. Thats what happened to 158 when the car was used very little for 2 yrars subsequent to a damper rebuild. They leaked pretty soon after I started driving it more...
I thought the car was on the register, but perhaps I did not go through the right process a couple of years ago.
If it is of interest.....Brief history of 158 as follows.
Bought new, and driven by my father through his 80s and early 90s. Never been on track, no accident damage. Still on...
Number 158, bought new by my Father when aged 78.
Just turned 50k miles, standard car except for Scorpion 192 exhaust. Service and MOT last week at Smiths Renault. No faults.
It is possible to repair and refinish the standard splitter. Don't discard the old one even if it's in pieces....as long as you have all the bits.
Similarly, 'plastic refinish' aerosols can make pattern washer blanks and repaired splitters look original ... with the slightly textured surface...
Good morning
My springs are away getting painted. Does anyone know the diameter of the steel used in original Eibach springs?
Eibach say they might be able to supply PU tube if I can confirm the size needed.
Thanks
Mike
Thank you for all your work looking into this. It still leaves the door open I guess for individuals to take this on. Its an option. Its as expensive, probably less to get the originals rebuilt.
Thank you again..
I will be visiting BGM soon.
For interest this is an extract from.an email from.them last week. We could organise a 'group refurbish'!
(joking :-)
There isn’t really a ‘standard’ charge to re- build these dampers as it really depends on the condition of the struts, although most of the sets...
So...
In the end, if I want to replace the rear dampers, Renaultpartsdirect are saying I need Cup units. You are all more knowledgeable than I am. Is a Cup damper the same as on the car originally or is it the best compromise but not far off?
Mine are original and not leaking but just looking...
Dear all,
Where is the best place to obtain new front springs (standard spec) for a Clio 182 Trophy? Does anyone have any they might sell? Or maybe just one?
It's a long story...
Thanks
It's my big feet ... and UK rough roads. I find myself using cruise control as an easier option because of inadvertent throttle unwanted throttle input. I think I would prefer a bit more weight to the pedal. But maybe I am the only one...
Hello
Has anyone got any experience re the spring return weight on the 182 Trophy accelerator pedal. I find it light and wonder if it's simple to add some spring tension to the pedal. Any views? Thank you.
Thank you,
I thought as much.
I opted for this rs 192 system because it is supposed to be 'not too loud' and boomy. And it seems fine in that. In general it does work well if only it was secure on the car. Interesting to note that its significantly more refined when the cat is set straight...
Many of you will have tried the Scorpion rs 192 exhaust. I fitted a new system onto new oe mounts and clamps this week.
Difficult to match tail pipes but will try to re-install.
Main problem is the catalytic converter sags. Scorpion sent this picture of a bracket support, but want over 40...
Like you, mine are original, in fact the whole system was original until a couple of days ago.
Slightly nervous of power flex in case noise is an issue as have gone for Scorpion rs 192.
Have fitted new Renault mount parts mid and rear . 'Front' rear rubbers look ok for now.
If you look on...
Good morning.
Is this the correct part number for the two smaller mounts towards the front of the rear silencer? 7700434978
There are many aftermarket items that seem a lot cheaper, and some look quite different, yet web sites say are correct for the car.
Originals on car are not in bad...
Hello,
I was thinking about painting the door handles off the car, with an airbrush. Perhaps her some handles on ebay to try before taking the car apart...Is this a good idea? Has anyone done it?
Thanks
