I would guess software, but do not have enough info to be sure. Perhaps RS Tuner may know?

    JMS RS2 Manifold

There is still the unanswered issue that the inlet cam advances at 1,500 rpm and then retards at 6,500 (per workshop manual iirc). This must affect the top end, and should be possible to map out - I spoke to Paul several years ago about this and he did not seem to know. Having recenty had my...

    JMS RS2 Manifold

It would be interesting to know whether this is a mechanical vibration issue or airflow resonacne. Quite a few cars have the former problem and it is generally solved by a support bracket up to the intake end of the runners - it would appear that quite minor vibrations can upset the injectors...

The answer to my handling problem...

Ben, depending on the quality of the bolts, you may be able to use more torque - in which case the nuts could be the weak link - best are kaynuts or spiraloc. I guess the Eibach bolts are net 12mm - I use a 12.9 aero grade bolt on 12.7 mm diameter, and with a spiraloc nut I am able to go to 180...

    Trackday tyre dilemma

For track work sidewall stability is key to both handling and tyre wear - otherwise you will be running on the 'letters'. I personally would not go over 5.5 x 30 = 165!! This is a guideline which has worked well for many cars over many years.

    Trackday tyre dilemma

5.5 is far too narrow for anything other than a 175 tyre!! Track tyres would need to be a hard compound to give good wear and you will need negative on the front to even out the wear.

    lowering a trophy

The trouble with lowering too much is that you will change the relative amounts of bump and rebound travel, and that is has been properly engineered and is fundmaental to the handling of theT. So many times I have seen handling problems cured by raising cars that have been lowered too much and...

    My sprint car blog

Colin, ignoring the somewhat dodgy Monica, what are your plans for 2011? We were all very pleased that the MSA backed off with the rule changes. I still think that reading S.10.10 para 2 together with 11.7.1 does not ban STM's, unless local regs specifically state to the contrary.

People running Ferodo DS2500 rear pads

Rick 196 - my point is that the cold coefficient of friction is generally lower on competition pads, albeit greater at temperature. Pagid certainly publish graphs of Mu against temperature and so may Ferodo.

People running Ferodo DS2500 rear pads

Under heavy weight transfer there is very little weight on the rear so 85/15 is believable. Many lightweight racing Minis worked best with front braking only, so that concept is quite reasonable. The brake bias is not the ultimate determinant of braking force front to rear, as it will be...

    Yokohama AD08 as road tyre?

AD08 and RE070 are road tyres, in that they have a much higher treadwear index than a track tyre, and also greater tread depth. The most difficult aspect is to get feedback on how they handle in the wet or even when cold, which is where the PE2 etc score.

    Uprated Cams help please

The problem is that the standard ECU/airflow meter can not handle much more aggressive valve timing than standard - the idle becomes unstable, so any suitable cams will be defintion only offer small gains.

    suspension setup

The Trophy has a torsion beam rear axle/suspension, which has a very low roll centre - and at the same time saloons have quite a high centre of gravity, which makes the car roll (and a stiffer rear bar won't do much once the car is three wheeling!). All this combines to make the rear end feel...

    Trophy Suspension Dilemma ... ?

AST are excellent and the after sales support from Curtis Woodman means that you can tailor the dampers and spring rates to your specific requirements.

Try Chipped UK in Bromsgrove - they did my T several years ago and the results were a huge step forward over a generic re-map.

    Extreme Pack??

The fronts would be interesting as Hoolio and I both calculated them at 170 lb/inch (just over 30 Nm/mm). But don't forget that because of the way in which the end coils sit on the platforms, at least part of those coils is in effect redundant.

    MSA - STM

Cue, This mainly relates to the production class. They are trying ot even things out and make things cheaper - but have not thought it through properly. I am not sure if some cars come with STM's - can't think of any off hand, but what they are saying is that you can not change the method of...

Damper refurbishment, why does it look different.

Gas pressure will have minimal affect on ride height - it is only 4.5 bar iirc. Ride height might be because the Trophy springs are slightly lower than oe.

    MSA - STM

Looks like the MSA are trying to ban STM's from the Production Class. I know that Shiftspark has already run into this problem, but this seems to be a concerted effort. The proposed rule changes are badly written, so any of you licence holders who would like to join the objections, there is a...

    upgrade coming soon....

Looks very nice, but what is the torque curve like, and do you have problems with needing to compensate for mixture between cylinders - was involved in some F3 engines several years ago and that was the problem with an airbox with the entry at one end, afterthe t/b.

    SACHS DAMPERS REBUILDS

To be fair to Matt I don't see why he needs to provide authorisation - most damper overhauls only require new seals and repressurisation - the seals are most likely to be available commercially. More difficult is when it comes to broken adjuster spindles etc. On the other hand one of the...

    upgrade coming soon....

The problem with these engine mods is that s/c or turbo put you in the same class as Evos etc - so no deal. The T/B's would seem to be the logical, but poor value for money, option - however I am suspicious about the horsepower claims as I seem to recall that the engine is relatively small bore...

    Stealthsport LTD

Don't understand your Koni comment. Yellows work on both bump and rebound, but normally are only adjustable for rebound. It is possible to change the bump characteristics, but only by dismantling them and making physical modifications. Does this mean that you have found a better solution?

Interesting Tyre Review - this month's EVO

Don't knock the so called budget tyres - in many cases they are owned or at least partner a major well known make and are starting to become o.e. Certainly my own experience of both Hankook and Kumho is that they are at least very close to the top groupings and are major corporations in their...

    Webber's Red Bull

Must admit that my heart was in my mouth, but was thrilled to see that he walked away. Absolutely staggering how strong and safe modern F1 cars are - all the crumple zones, safety cells and crash testing really do work - all in a light car as well.
