Afternoon all,

I thought it best to set up a thread for #422 instead of posting on the register.

Having owned the car for almost 2 weeks I can say I'm quite impressed. It needs a bit of TLC like most 10 year cars but that was part of the appeal of ownership and the fact I've always wanted one. :D

My plan was to wash the car on Sunday after having it out and the weather being mild for a change, however my K'archer has sprung a leak and is out of action.
I did take a few photos:-

Overall the car is in decent shape. The previous owner had 2 alloys refurbished and they are on opposite sides of the car which the eagle eyed of you will spot. I need/want to remove the Nurburgring sticker as I just looks wrong and no my thing.

A few bits of plastic trim need replaced, the rear bumper insert and the front scuttle :-

I also need to address the interior plastic trim and the steering wheel. In time I'll get the wheel retrimmed but not sure what style/materials I'll go for. I will be on the lookout for replacement standard interior trim with the view of spraying the current set anathracite similar to the alloys just to be a bit different but with having the option to revert back if I don't like it.

Yesterday I collected a few bits to make a start on my to do list.

Two small jobs but that's them off the list and didn't break the bank.

The 1st owner (making an assumption here) had this fitted:-

It looks like an aerial/antenna not sure what it is for plus there is a small jack hanging in the passenger footwell. Any ideas?
I don't want to rip it off just now but I do need to investigate if they are connected.

Having said the car is in decent shape I need to get the front wing sorted as it's sporting a few scuffs, still visible through the dirt:-

I have the car booked in at SWR in Stirling on the 8th March where a huge chunk of my to do list will get done. The cambelt isn't due for another year but the car hasn't been serviced since late 2014 and 1 key so I will get the following done:-

Cambelt & aux belt
Waterpump
Dephaser
Oil & oil filter
Air filter
Pollen filter
Spark plugs
Gearbox oil
Power steering fluid
New key programmed

Plus a good going over, if anything needs replaced now is the time to do it whilst I have the funds available.
I have to say I was blown away by the price SWR quoted for the above work without the key programming £720! £200 cheaper than a well known specialist equal distance away. SWR will discount the key programming since they will have the car all day.

I will try my best to keep this update especially after I tick off jobs on the "To do list" but I hope most of my time is spent enjoying it.

Fingers crossed this long winded post hasn't bored you all to tears, thanks for reading.

Hi, nice to see another log :D

I sprayed my scuttle panel with plasticote mat black, still ok after 1year, it has not lasted as well on the wing mirrors, but have to get close to see it

If you are having belts done, dont forget the new cams  :p and if you want refresh the dash strips and gear knob insert could spray them up

I'm going to speak to my mum and dad's next door neighbour about sorting the wing and if he can spray the interior plastics and the exterior trim. He has done numerous jobs for me before from stone chipped rear arches (R26) to a cracked bumper (RS250) damn suicidal badger!

No cams sadly, I had planned to view a car in Dundee that had 438 cat cams plus supporting mods but that's not what I'm after. The Mini SD is mapped to 210bhp - 300lbs/ft that's as far as my modding really extends too. :D

Daryl. The thing on the screen looks like a DAB antenna. The jack plug is probably lugged into the aux input on the radio. Plug it into your phone. Press the src button on the set and see what happens

The jack is too small but I'll try an adapter on it and see what happens.

What are the benefits of fitting 197 cams? Do you run them?

well cost Vs gains really, if you are lucky you will get set for £100-120, and they just give it a bit more poke, needs the timing playing with by someone thats done it before, its in my project log somewhere :p

Looks like you will be doing the wiper switch mod 

Yup, can't believe the 1st owner of 8 years never did the swap. I priced up a new stalk £56 which is a bit steep. I have my eye on a few on eBay but it could be a lottery to which works.

At the present moment in time it's hassle I can live without. I may consider it in 5 years time at the next belt change.

Don't pay more than £12 for one. I got one from a local Renault specialist breaker who said they would swap it if it didn't work but I didn't have a problem. It was a place called Renparts, they have an eBay shop

Keep up the good work...
Its always good to read of other peoples projects...
It looks like the rear tailpipes need re-aligning slightly, and your front splitter is in need of slight attention..
Just being "eagle eyed"...
Have fun....

Very well spotted on the the splitter, once I get axle stands I'll try sorting it myself.
The exhaust might need new mounts as one looks a tad rough but if I get a chance I'll try adjusting it.

I have ordered new boot struts, the Magnetti Marelli ones off eBay. Hopefully they arrive next week as it is a right PITA putting stuff in and taking it out the boot.

The Ktec ones are only held on by 6 self tappers. It will probably be just one that's missing. I hated the Ktec one, I got £70 for it after refurbing it so they do ok 2nd hand. I bought a skoda fabia one but it's still in the box as I found a genuine one brand new at reasonable money, particularly when I knocked the £70 off I got for the Ktec. I've not fitted it yet though

I think the Ktec splitter looks okay but I do have the carbon washer blanks as well. I'll have a look later in the week when I'm off.
Does anyone have pictures of a T fitted with the Fabia splitter fitted?

Well today was Judgement day for #422.
The car went into SWR in Stirling for a major service and a good going over but as suspected my spending isn't finished just yet.

Cambelt + aux belt
Water pump + coolant
Dephaser
Oil + oil filter
Spark plugs
Gearbox oil
Power steering fluid
New key coded

They also checked the standard exhaust which has a slight leak at the front joint and the rear mounts are perished.
I suspected the mounts were shot so not a big issue. I also thought the brakes needed attention and I was right, 25% left on the front pads plus the front and rear discs are corroded.
They also checked for a knocking from the front which I thought was maybe the top mount however everything looks good apart from the front dampers which have a slight leak.
Now I have a dilemma do I get them refurb'd now or wait till MoT time in August if they last that long?

All in all I'm still happy with my purchase and the service provided by SWR.

Anyone selling front dampers?

As Mikey said cup front dampers are cheap to buy and use in the meantime. If you give BG a call they still might be on the quiet side, before the motorsport season kicks off so you should get a quick turn around.
